Fight for Southside

About Me

Adam J. Tomer was first elected to City Council in May 2006, at the age of twenty-six years old. Tomer became the youngest person in recent history to win such a seat. During the election seven candidates competed for four open seats with all incumbents seeking re-election. Tomer led the ticket by about 800 votes and defeated Danville’s current and former mayors. A Danville native, Adam became the first male member of his family to complete college, receiving his bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Catawba College and his Master’s of Business Administration from Appalachian State University. After receiving his M.B.A., Tomer went on to serve as the Chief Financial Officer and the Chief Operating Officer of The Wizard's Cauldron, LTD, the nation’s largest organic sauce and salad dressing producer. After a successful corporate turnaround, he was recruited to serve in yet another turnaround capacity as Director of Operations and Finance for the Wilson, NC based Triangle Processing. Today, Mr. Tomer serves in business development for Triangle Processing, Inc. In July 2006, Mr. Tomer was appointed to serve as the council representative for the Danville Utilities Commission and the Virginia Environmental Policy Committee. Adam Tomer considers himself a “Warner Democrat” and believes strongly in the need to progressively transform Southside’s economy through focusing on education and giving our leaders the tools they need for business recruitment. He supports efforts to improve our environment and will support Virginia’s laws on crime and punishment. An avid sportsman and gun collector, Adam believes in and will defend Virginians’ right to bear arms. As the uncle of an adopted nephew, Adam believes Virginia needs to support the culture of life and become more adoption friendly. Tomer is a democrat because he believes it is the party of the American Dream and too many people lack a voice in government. He is also concerned about the status of our middle class working men and women along with our aging senior base. In a recent interview Tomer was quoted as saying, “I believe that fighting for the working men and women, the senior citizens and the middle class is my fight. It is the fight I will continue to fight.” Tomer gained praise from local media for standing behind his main campaign promise of asking the Danville owned Utilities Department to develop a Utility Assistance Program for the elderly poor and disabled. Though the measure failed in council, it showed Tomer’s willingness to fight for an issue and support those who need help. Adam Tomer will truly be “The New Voice for Southside Virginia.”Adam Tomer and his wife Robin reside in the City of Danville.

Fiscal Issues: 50% Conservative, 50% Liberal
Ethics: 25% Conservative, 75% Liberal
Defense and Crime: 75% Conservative, 25% Liberal How Liberal Or Conservative Are You?Why I'm a Democrat: I am a Democrat because since Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence - and since Jackson spoke for the common man - our party has never been the party of the status quo. Instead, we have been the ones to see a challenge - and do something about it. Let's be honest - it hasn't always worked perfectly. Sometimes it has gotten us in trouble. Sometimes it has split us apart. But sometimes, those are the wages of progress. And yet, I am a Democrat because the greatest and most noble political experiments of our time had their birth in our party.I am a Democrat because the New Deal literally saved the lives of hundreds of thousands of Americans.I am a Democrat because a generation after a Democratic president started the Peace Corps, you can still find faded photographs of John F. Kennedy on the walls of homes from South Africa to South America.I am a Democrat because fighting for working men and women is always the right fight.I am a Democrat because many in our party led the struggle for civil rights - in the tough places like Virginia and Mississippi - and because we recognize that discrimination and bigotry are not dead - and that we must continue to seek equal opportunity for all.I am a Democrat because despite our failures, our missteps, and our excesses - we know that waging a war on poverty does not mean fighting the individuals who are poor.I am a Democrat because we know that today's battle is about the future versus the past - and it's time to put aside yesterday's battles of us versus them.I am a Democrat because we know that criticizing success won't create a single job.In fact, I think the Democratic Party is the party of the American Dream. Every child ought to have limitless opportunity in our great nation.AMEN MARK WARNER.....
