The Hucksters

About Me

The Hucksters were formed in Scotland in 1988 by five friends determined to write and perform great songs. Later that year they teamed up with a local independent label Rocket 5 (home to Summerhill / Dangtrippers) to release their first single, "Way of the feeling" which was met with impressive reviews including "Single of the Week" in Record Mirror. The collaboration with Rocket 5 continued with the release of a further two LP's, 1989's "Seventh Sense" (drums Rhod "Lefty" Burnett (Primevals/Summerhill)) and 1990's "Hot Coals for Supper" (drums Neil Grant later of Superstar and now Abacus Roolz). Both albums were met with great critical acclaim from the music press in the UK (Seventh Sense being given "guitar album of the month award" in UK trade paper Music Week) and from as far afield as Spain, Sweden, United States and Greece. The Hucksters are drawn to great guitar music and count amongst their influences, the Beach Boys, the Stones, The Beatles to Gun Club and R.E.M.
The core members of Alan, David and Guy remain committed to their belief in music as a way of life and continue to write and record great songs. We've uploaded a couple of tracks from our soon to be reissued debut album "Seventh Sense" along with a couple of tracks recorded earlier this year for a 13 track album called "Abort Mission".
Early Hucksters material has long been out of print and can only be found in record collector shops or maybe on ebay. However a newly remastered version of "Seventh Sense" is now available to buy as a digital download from iTunes stores worldwide via the goldfillingrecords.com collective

Sounds Like: PRESS comments about "Seventh Sense"

"..but short of reproducing the scores of these totally gear and fab seven songs, the highest commendation "Guitar Album of the Week" will have to suffice. - Music Week

"It's played with a bright rootsy twist and fuelled by a big heart that looks across the Atlantic for it's defining influences - The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, Alex Chilton and inevitably, REM" - Grahame Bent SOUNDS

"This is rock and roll at its most refined with certain tracks capable of standing next to The Byrds, Creedence or REM without shame" - Keith Bruce Cut Magazine

"..like most bands east of the Atlantic who attempt this sorta majesto/jangle motion end up sounding like AOR drips from a leaky faucet in Springsteen's prostate. These f*ckers cut a diff brand of mustard. Measured against the Menck pop scale they're well "into the black". There's a certain amount of post 'Boken sound pinning, but I rate these guys right up there w/ better Midwestern brand-names like The Service and the Hollowmen." - Byron Coley Forced Exposure

"..maybe the good reviews mount up and have a cummulative effect. In which case I add mine to the pile: "GO OUT AND BUY THIS IMMEDIATELY!!!" The Hucksters are as good a band as any in the land. The songs are memorable from the first hearing." - Paul Ricketts Unhinged Magazine
