Savage

About Me

Hailing from Mansfield, England, Savage, in typical NWOBHM fashion and featured vocalist/bassist Chris Bradley, guitarists Wayne Renshaw and Andy Dawson, and drummer Dave Lindley. Though they started jamming as early as 1978, the band toiled in obscurity for years before finally signing a record deal with independent label Ebony Records.
SAVAGE's first release was a track on the 'Metal Fatigue' compilation album before the single 'Ain't No Fit Place', 'China Run'. The resultant good reviews led Ebony to finance their classic debut album 'Loose n' Lethal', probably one of the finest British Metal albums ever released.
The album displayed a very aggressive punch, razor-sharp guitars and some fine Lynnot-esque narrative style lyric writing.
Extremely raw and unpolished, the album garnered good reviews from the British metal press and was even a top import in America, but their label's inexperience and low cash flow prevented the band from capitalizing on its underground success. The relationship was soon terminated.
Savage then went on to sign with yet another no-name record company (this time Zebra) for 1984's We Got the Edge 12" and the following year's Hyperactive album.
Lady Luck wasn't on the band's side as offers from both Roadrunner Records & came about whilst already signed to labels and unfortunately for them were unable to get out of their current contracts and capitalize on the offers.
In 1986 Savage called it a day.
10 years later, Jess Cox, an old friend of the band from his Tygers of Pangtang days and current CEO of Neat Metal Records wanted to bring Savage out of retirement. Chris Bradley & Andy Dawson got together and wrote their comeback album from the ashes of other projects they had been involved over the tenure of Savage's breakup. The comeback album was released under the title "Holy Wars".
Their follow up to this release has been regarded by many as being one of the best UK Metal/Hard Rock albums of the 90's - "Babylon". With epics such as the title track as well as the awesome ballad "No Ordinary Day" this was one fucking hell of an album.
Then came "Extreme Machine" with a much more modern feel to it than the rest. The album's production makes it easily one of the best produced albums of the 0ies. The track opener "Control Freak" sets the tone for a BIG album.
Savage are now working towards their 6th Studio Release.
