About Me


Performer, Composer and Educator, Jake Hanlon currently resides in Antigonish Nova Scotia, a Professor of Music at Saint Francis Xavier University.
A Native of Nova Scotia Canada, Hanlon has had the opportunity to work some some of the brightest and talented students and teachers in the World. In 2003 he graduated with Honors from Saint Francis Xavier University with a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies. In 2007 he was hired as a Graduate Teaching Fellow at the University of North Texas. The Fellowship Duties included instruction of Private lessons, Performance Fundamentals and direction of the UNT L5 and Super 400 Guitar Ensembles, the L5 ensemble being one of the foremost College Guitar Ensembles in the World.
In April of 2007 Hanlon was awarded a residency at the John F Kennedy Center's Jazz Ahead program for young, up and coming Jazz composers.
In late May early June of 2008 Hanlon tracked and mixed his debut album Follow with a Jazz Quartet featuring Graham Richards on piano, Ryan Hagler on Bass and Colin Hinton on drums. The Album should be released late this Fall.
In July Hanlon launched his new website featuring tracks from the album, live performances and other combo projects as well as a detailed biography, lesson downloads and short blog posts. Also announced is a book project slated to be completed by the end of 2008.
In September 2008 Hanlon returned home to StFX university as a member of the Institutions Faculty in the music department. Hanlon teaches Jazz Guitar, Jazz Combo, Rhythm Section Masterclass and Guitar Masterclass.
