Inconceivable!

About Me

Well, I wanted to open with a joke, but frankly my sarcasm is more likely to provoke a lynchmob than a laugh if you don't know I'm kidding, so maybe I'll just go straight into the boring stuff. I'm a full-time waiter at a nice little restaurant down in Cardiff as well as a full-time UCSD student. All in all, my life currently revolves around those two enterprises with a little time squeezed out in between for my friends. I like to think I have a fairly good sense of humor, though admittedly a dry and sarcastic one. Those who make it past the first conversation and aren't offended tend to agree. I read a lot when I have free time at home, and I try to go dancing when I can, particularly samba and salsa dancing, though I enjoy the usual clubs as well.

My Interests

The beach (why else would I pay these ridiculous prices?), movies, dancing, reading, writing and arithmatic (well, maybe not the last 2, but definitely reading), the opera, and various other activities depending on what day of the week you ask me on.

I'd like to meet:

Free spirits, not in the "I don't like to bathe or use deoderant" sense (not that there's anything wrong with that), but rather anyone who has an open mind and a casual, friendly personality and doesn't take themselves or their beliefs so seriously that they can't laugh at them now and again. I'm always interested in meeting people who have a passion for what they do, be it surfing, teaching, bull fighting, or whatever else. One thing I'm always looking for is a good laugh, even if it has to be at my expense.

Music:

Channels on my dial: 91.1, 94.9, 97.3, 101.5, 102.1, 105.3. I think gives a pretty good idea. In general, anything and everything, though I tend to lean towards alternative rock, ie, Smashing Pumpkins, A Perfect Circle, Bad Religion, Our Lady Peace, Oasis, Soul Coughing, etc. and classic rock, ie CCR, Eagles, Bob Seger, as well as the blues and some older jazz, ie John Lee Hooker, Etta James, et al.

Movies:

Far and away, I prefer comedies. That said: Monty Python's Quest for the Holy Grail, Boondock Saints, Eddie Izzard's comedy routine Dress to Kill, The Princess Bride (I do not think that word means what you think it means), The Dark Crystal, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, etc etc

Television:

Don't watch it much, though when I do I like Law and Order, maybe a couple others.

Books:

Everything from Dante and Voltaire to Raymond Feist and John Updike.

Heroes:

My grandpa: the strongest man I could ever hope to know, though he'd never admit it himself.

That´s right folks, it finally happened!  No, I´m not getting married, and no, I´m not pregnant, for crying out loud.  I finally got robbed in Europe, whee!  Unfortunately it´s not any ...

Madrid

I think those who know me will agree that I have an appreciation for art and artists, regardless of genre.  Unfortunately, however, that has been more or less a generic sort of sentiment, my actu...

Esthpana

Time has been, cliche or not, flying by.  We've spent the past 2 days carousing through Barcelona, though perhaps carousing is too strong of a word.  To be perfectly honest, we've been ...

More adventures with jellyfish! ... Just kidding

Well, plans have been altered somewhat, seeing us leaving Cinque Terre a day early, and eschewing travel through Narbonne (a quiet little town which happens to be France's largest wine producing regio...

David and Goliath, or, The Jellyfish and I

Just a short blurb here while I'm online to check the relative health of my bank account and write an email or two.  This is our second day in Cinque Terre, a series of 5 surprisingly small ...

Il conto, por favore?

Bona cera! Yes, Ive likely spelled that wrong, and as every Italian Ive come into contact with can attest so Ive pronounced it even worse, but Ive never let something as mundane as spelling or pronun...

From Amsterdam to Prague

The whirlwind that was the first part of our trip has subsided somewhat, an altogether pleasant thing, and Amsterdam and Prague have been, in a word, incredible.  I'm afraid there isn't much in t...

Recapping the first week

I sit here in this small internet cafe in Amsterdam with the 4th of July quickly approaching, thinking fondly on its traditional bonfire at the beach with friends, watching the sun melt into the ocean...
