Burwell has long felt that diversity and creative identity were instrumental in the fashioning of a well-rounded artist. A San Francisco, CA native, Burwell began his musical training with the piano at age seven. By the onset of his teenage years, he had learned to play most brass instruments and was beginning to work on compositions. A Congressional Scholar in Leadership, Burwell received a B.S. in Vocal Music Education from Florida A & M University. It was in college that Burwell would begin his studies in theater, dance, voice, and ethnomusicology. Since relocating to New York, Burwell has had the opportunity to work with an array of talented and acclaimed artist. In addition to having the ability to play over twenty musical instruments, Burwell, is co-founder of the Prophecy Arts Collective a multifaceted collection of professional creative and performing artist. Burwell serves as the musical director of Prophecy Dance Works and Executive Director of ProphecyMusic/NY. He is currently on the Musical Staff at the Alvin Ailey School of Dance.
