The American Roots Music Association (ARMA) was conceived in March, 2001 and started in operation April 2006, for the purpose of promoting and otherwise advancing the popularity and availability of those musical genres and forms that are uniquely American and that have given rise to many of the musical expressions of the current times. Examples of American Roots Music would include, blues, alt country, mountain music, roots rock, folk and bluegrass, among others.
ARMA is now opening up to membership from among the following areas: musicians, artists, songwriters, broadcasters, commercial music business representatives, and, yes, even roots music fans.
