Hello my name is John Chun Sai So. i am currently living in Melbourne Australia. Since 2001 i have been honored with the position of 'Lord Mayor' in this great city. I was Born on October 20 1946, in Hong Kong. I moved to Melbourne when i was 17, soon followed by my mother. But I still have my brothers back home. In the following years, i studied 'education' and 'science' at the University of Melbourne. this led me to helping in the founding of the University's 'Overseas and Chinese Students Association' After university, i moved on to work as a teacher at "Fitzroy High School' i was also to become a strong proprietor in the Restaurant industry as well. Other Positions i have held include - Director of the Melbourne Water Corporation, Ethnic Affairs Commissioner for Victoria, Vice-President of the Melbourne Chinatown Traders' Association, Chairman of the Asia Pacific Racing Carnival and chairman of the Victorian Chinese Welfare Centre. I was elected as a Councillor for Central Ward on the Melbourne City Council in 1991. In March 1999 I came within one vote of being elected Lord Mayor. In July 2001, I achieved my goal, becoming the first directly elected Lord Mayor. Along with television presenter Livinia Nixon, I have been the face of the "That's Melbourne" campaign to encourage tourism. I am a member of the Police Minister's Crime Prevention Council, and am also pushing for the federal government to build a national indigenous museum in Melbourne. I Love this City and all the people in it. I hope to remain in the position i am in for many years to come. So i can continue my work to keep melbourne the beautiful place that it is. I have recently enjoyed the support i have received in the commonwealth games. I enjoyed the games very much, as i hope you did also. the show that melbourne put on inside and out was one big party Regards -John So
