First, is Gandalf. Yeah, I know he's a fictional character, but he is the Forefather of all today's Wizards and one of the most intense characters ever written. To be nearly omnipotent, have the one thing at your fingertips that would garauntee you infinite power and to stay true to yourself and see the quest through to the end despite overwhelming odds and the failing morale of those all around you is truly inspirational. Lord of the Rings wouldn't have been even close to the masterpiece it was without him, arguably the most pivotal character in all of Middle-Earth.
Secondly, would be J.R.R. Tolkien. Yeah, I know he's moved on to another world now, but his works have been an inspiration for writers of fantasy for decades (myself included) and I would love to be able to tap his mind for the wonders hidden there. To have created such a believable and complex world as Middle-Earth and to have developed such a history and have so many wondrous tales told of that world is simply amazing. I can only dream that my works will be half as great as his.
There are some of my inspirations that I could truly hope to meet someday, though. First, Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, the co-authors of the Dragonlance Chronicles and Legends trilogies were the hosts of my first forays into the nether-regions of Fantasy.
My current favorites, Robert Jordan, Terry Goodkind and relative newcomer Robert Newcomb are all three people who would top this list. Also my favorite fantasy artists Boris Vallejo and Luis Royo.
All of them are great sources of inspiration to me and I would be blessed and honored to be able to meet them.
