About Me

Galih Alexander Richardson is a folk singer based in west London. He started his career in folk because of his utter frustration with modern music. In the past he has tip-toed through many different electronic based genres. Through these mediums he found it difficult to accept the compromises that he would have had to make in order to succeed in industry. His move to folk was a conscious decision to start writing the songs that he had always wished he could write. He writes with the 1950's beat generation coursing through his veins; his inspiration is drawn from forgotten voices such as Woody Guthrie, Odetta, and all the greats of the Delta Blues generation. He drowns himself daily with the liberating works of Ginsberg and Kerouac, and is constantly searching for modern equivalents. Galih's songwriting is often improvised poetry pasted onto previously written chord structures. In songs such as "Light Outside my Window," "Hail Mary!," and "a new house and a new bed" the lyrics are done in one take, unrehearsed and unwritten. He reasons that they are done this way to keep in line with the spontaneous creativity that is key to beat poetry. Although some of his works are still written in the basic format. Throughout 2009 you will find him writing and performing with Francis Newington on a project they have called "Ay Ducane." "Ay Ducane," is a two piece acoustic set that is lost in city landscape. The name is inspired by Sir Edmund Du Cane, who saw criminality as an essential element of society. They are preparing to record their first EP that will be titled "Ay Ducane Penitentiary." LINK: myspace.com/ayducane "The songs will always be more important than the artists, a musicians legacy is knowing that his/her songs will exist forever after their death." GAR"Crossroads round the bend music, lost in the gaps between history and reality music, reminding the forgetful, forgetting the regretful, in tune to nothing, because nothing's in tune music." GAR.
