Dirty haus, techno and minimal. From an early age music has always been a central part of Orinoko, aka David Ince’s life. From borrowed mix tapes recorded at early Brisbane raves to his first set of turntables in the early nineties the discovery of dance music set him on the course you see before you today. An early interest in Hardcore and the Rave scene was diverted by a chance discovery of Detroit techno at a rave whilst traveling the UK and Europe. Eight hours of Juan Atkins, Kevin Saunderson and Blake Baxter and Orinoko was hooked, spending the next few months devouring as much techno as possible. Once back in Australia, he took to the decks and started to learn the skills and music that have driven him to this day. The early days in Nth Qld consisted of throwing and playing at free parties everywhere and anywhere, from the inner city to the middle of nowhere, warehouses to dried creek beds and the tops of mountain ranges. This DIY ethic led to a chance encounter one blurry morning with dj Shadrach and Phreakin Productions was born. A string of residencies and club nights followed over the next 2 years with a number of successful parties and nights and a sound that nurtured a Nth Qld dance scene that has continued from strength to strength today. In 1999 a move to Brisbane was undertaken and a long road of instilling himself on an already vibrant underground scene, one of the pinnacles of which was a year and a half long residency on Saturday nights at Brisbane’s underground sound lounge Mantra (circa 2001). He then went on to co-host and promote a series of rocking parties such as liquidBASS (2002-2006), MELT (2005 – present) and The Goodness (2005 – present – free party power!!), all showcasing the techno, minimal and house sound to the Brisbane scene.Along the way have been numerous sets supporting the majority of Techno style internationals that have passed through Brisbane and a heavy involvement running and managing the 'liquidBASS vs DROP' stage at both the 2005 and 2006 Earthcore QLD Global Carnivals.Orinoko also co-hosts ‘Electronic Goodness’ a purely electronic based radio show on Brisbane’s community radio station 4zzz, every Saturday night, peaktime from 8 – 10pm.Underground, overground wombling free……….Orinoko has supported Adam Beyer, Joel Mull, Stephan Bodzin, Steve Bug, Funk d'Void, Deetron, Michael Mayer, Jeff Mills, Meat Katie, Lee Combs, Misjah, Ben Simms, The Youngsters, Kazu Kimura, Woody McBride, Chester Beatty, Devilfish, Dr. Motte, Ken Ishii, Tom Clark, Tarentella, Redanka and Space DJ'z.Interstate: Simon Sleiker, DeeDee, Slack, Diskopussy, Simon Digby, Phil Smart, Simon Coyle, Damien Laird, TechiOne.
