Carpe Diem!
"When fear makes your choices for you, no security measures on earth will keep the things you dread from finding you. But if you can avoid avoidance—if you can choose to embrace experiences out of passion, enthusiasm, and a readiness to feel whatever arises—then nothing, nothing in all this dangerous world, can keep you from being safe." -Anonymous
I have always found that if there is a will there is a way. I grew up hearing this phrase repeated so many times that eventually I came to live by these words. I thrive off finding possibilities, whether it's helping a friend find a new place to live, researching opportunities for future places to travel, or trying new things around the city. Some of the best experiences in my life have come from the unexpected plans which take route along the path to where I intended to go.
I absolutely love to travel! It's so refreshing to be liberated by the anonymity of the road.
"What you've done becomes the judge of what you're going to do - especially in other people's minds. When you're traveling, you are what you are right there and then. People don't have your past to hold against you. No yesterdays on the road." ~William Least Heat Moon, Blue Highways
Some of the most intriguing and thought provoking places I've spent time traveling through include Iceland, Norway, Russia, Ireland, Italy, Belgium, and Jamaica. I enjoy spending time among those who I can relate to but who live their lives in such a different way than expected. Being exposed to other ways of living, and seeing how happy these people can be, expands the way I think of my own life. So much of my life and culture have been placed into perspective while I was overseas with friends or studying. Quite refreshing! There's something profound about walking the rows of Auschwitz or among the Myan ruins and experiencing the existance of a location where history took place. There's something about walking along the edge of the Mid-Atlantic ridge in Iceland or the western cliffs in Ireland and simply basking in the beauty of nature's wonders. Or drinking with the Jamacians, playing bongos, and twirling around the dance floor - hakunah mattatah.
I believe that in this crazy world "Strangers, are just family you have yet to come to know." ~Mitch Albom
