I enjoy painting and drawing pictures. charles wish.com
Charles Wish is an American artist best known for visually fusing American Regionalist imagery with 16th - 19th century South-Asian motifs. Debut solo show: 2005, CPop Gallery, Detroit, Michigan.
Citing local giants like Wood and Benton (as well the anonymous artisans of a foreign, primal world) Wish thoughtfully combines the esoteric ontology of a nonage civilization with some of rural-America’s most selfsame symbols and scenes -- the dominant aim being to express that the global relationship we all now face is not negating, but rather has a tremendous ability to positively enhance that which we already know and love.
“All the regional culture which provincial America has generated and come to adore isn’t threatened by outsider trends. Rather, our hometown cultures have the opportunity to be greatly augmented by their foreign counterparts. All we need to do is have the courage to find a place of balance.â€
Described as “Surregional†by Rick Manore (Director of CPop Gallery, Detroit, Michigan) Wish's paintings are dedicated to all who daydream about finding cultural identity in America today.
