Now it can be told: Zed Jones is David Kaufman. The two are one! It's true!
Influences: The Kinks, The Simpsons, Bill Murray, Stephen Colbert, Kurt Vonnegut, Jr., Rachel Maddow, Sherlock Holmes (Basil Rathbone version), Jon Stewart, The Beatles, Christa Eskelin, King of the Hill, Steve Martin, John Irving, Batman (Adam West version), Harry Nilsson, My Name is Earl, Bob Dylan, James Spader, Dolores Gilio, Harry Shearer, Lily Tomlin, Rob Sheffield, This American Life, Steely Dan, Zorro (any version), Simon & Garfunkel, CCR, Pete Seeger, Bernie Mac Show, the Waitresses.
Sounds Like: People have compared me to a lot of artists who sound nothing like each other, which proves that it just depends what song you’re listening to. It may also indicate the rapid spread of insanity in our society. I won’t stress about it, though, because all these guys have sold a few records. I have been told that I sound like (here we go!): Elvis Costello, Frank Zappa, Queen, P. Diddy, the Rolling Stones, Joe Jackson, the Who, Bob Seger, Bauhaus, Warren Zevon, Neil Diamond, Tom Petty and blah blah blah. But I must admit, more than anyone else lately, people have been saying I remind them of David Bowie. No wonder it’s hard for me to categorize my music!
The video below the Zed Jones Unit performing at the NoHo Street Fair in the summer of ’06. The song is a bluesy little number called "So Many Ways to Ignore Her."
Record Label: Sure, why not.
