I live in NC and am happily married to the love of my life. We have one wonderful dog and 8 wonderful cats and they are all our babies.We both volunteer with a local animal rescue and are foster parents for kittens and special need cats. I'm the Kitten Intake Coordnator so kitten season is a busy, stressful time for me. I put my heart into what I do and can't imagine a time when I'm not actively involved in rescue.I have very strong opinions when it comes to how animals should be treated. I'm not asking that everyone agree with me, simply that you know this.
I believe animals are members of our family, not something to be given up or swapped out like pieces of furniture.
If a person who is supposed to love you asks you to get rid of one of your cats or dogs for them, please ask yourself what they'll be asking you to give up for them next.
I am not my dog or cats owner but their parent. I do not own another living being.
I do not agree with declawing, except in exceptional medical cases. It's torture, plain and simple. The quicker America and Canada can catch up with the rest of the world on this, all the better. If you feel you need to have a declawed cat then adopt one whose already been declawed. There are plenty of them out there who need good homes.
I believe Spaying and Neutering is an even more important issue than declawing. 4-5 million cats and dogs are killed in this country every year through no fault of their own, but because of selfish, irresponsible humans. For every kitten born 9 will die. That fact alone keeps me awake at night.
I believe a good diet is essential to a cats health and that a significant portion of their diet should be made up of premium wet food. If you wonder why, please do some research.
I believe all cats should have an indoor only lifestyle. It extends their life expectancy from a maximum of 5 years to close to 20 years.
I do not agree in buying from breeders. Every animal bought from a breeder takes the space of another animal who is dieing in a shelter.
If you adopted your cat or dog from a rescue please give something back. Wether it's your time or money, wether you can foster or just answer phones one day a week, do something. Remember that if it wasnt for a rescue group you would not have this precious life in your family. If your not part of the solution your are part of the problem.
