Powwah Da Poet BORN: Scorpio, a water sign "Power is the ability to define phenomina and have it behave in a desired manner", Dr Huey P Newton. POWWAH adopted this saying very young in life. A philosophy genetically passed down to him from his parents. Experencing life between Los Angeles ,Cali. and Memphis, Tenn., POWWAH bore witnesss to a southern life complete with extreme racism, mis-education, self hatred, as well as the most articulated, thoughtful, considerate, tolorent, family orented way of life the south could offer. Take and mix that with the radical, up in your face, high speed, politically charged atmosphere of LA. It was the birth of POWWAH. POWWAH was introduced to poetry by his father. Exposing him to the likes of The Legendary THE LAST POETS, Gill Scott-Herron ,Nina Simone, as well as countless others. He cultivated himself in his african culture, leading him to study and immerse totally in liberation for his people, expressed in his writings and everyday existance. In 2000, POWWAH became affiliated with Psych Ward Records and appeared on numerous tracks with the label's own TUCKA. But due to creative differences he opted to leave the hip hop world. Determined not to mislead his people with lyrics of mysogony and ignorance, POWWAH sought solice in his original love, POETRY. The art of the spoken word. In 2001, POWWAH began performing at open mic spots in his southern region, also showcasing his musical talents along beside his beautiful wife PHU'CHA in the reggae band JAH MEK I which also served as a vehicle to gain a large fan base for his spoken truths.
