About Me

Lover. Fighter. Hero. Just three of the many words that have never been used to describe Tommy, an over-educated north Oxford toff-boy with an unmistakable hint of effeminacy and a worrying love of the sound of his own voice. A frankly unlikely blend of overweening arrogance and crippling insecurity, Tommy is indistinguishable from the countless thousands of other over-privileged, under-talented home-counties buffoons to flood north-east London like a plague of Guardian-reading rats. Think Nathan Barley without the techno-savvy and you're there.

My Interests

Morris dancing; gun-running; the works of Christopher Marlowe; pagan child sacrifice.

I'd like to meet:

A nice girl with long dark hair and bright eyes to settle down and grow old with. Or, failing that, an inexpensive prostitute. Get in touch!

Music:

Yes.

Movies:

Still waiting for my career to take off, really, and have been working as a dog-fluffer in some Bay Area 8MM straight-to-video specialised-tastes numbers to pay the rent.Films I really, really loathe: most of them. Particularly anything with THAT HORRIBLE LEATHERY SKULL-FACE PATRICK "ARSEHOLE" SWAYZE in it. Dirty Dancing! Christ. Although I did quite enjoy Donnie Darko. He's quite convincing as a kiddy-fiddler, for some reason.

Television:

Four BAFTAs for my role as Third Corpse in Prime Suspect IV.

Books:

The world of literature is a closed, um, book for me, alas. I struggle with anything more complex than our gas bill.

Heroes:

The Green Hornet.

My Blog

Because You're Worth It, You Great Big Nancy

Alarming news. I have done a stock-take of the various bottles of product cluttering the windowsill in the shower. There are a total of twenty-six bottles of different types of goo. Pearlescent goo, o...

In the bleak midwinter

So January's finally drawing to a longed-for close, praise ye the Lord and all his works. Ah, sweet January; grey, dull, grimly unpleasant weather to accompany the month-long feeling of nagging disqui...

The Hallelujah Halfwit Chorus

I try not to get too political in these blog things. Mainly, that's because to write well about politics requires being well-informed, and while I can generally bluff it in conversation I don't ...

Get Thee Behind Me, Santa

Bloody Christmas again. You know how I can tell? I mean, apart from the enormous red tinsel snowflakes hanging above the drooping, defeated heads of the listless proles in Morrison's (an ongoing ...

Unreconstructed, shameless snobbery; middle-class patronising; and Marxist theory

Right, background story first: I'm a student again. This will be less than a surprise to people who know me, and who know that I tend to shrivel up like a salted slug if removed from the aca...

Much better now, thanks

Well; after yesterday's horrible moan about how terrible I feel and how much my legs hurt, here's an update. Essentially - now that I can walk unaided and mount my bike without whi...

Run for the hills

You people - you know who you are, with your lithe, athletic physiques and limitless stamina and unshakeable sense of self-worth - sicken me. Yes, you, the ones who take all this "exercise" and p...

Job-Seeker

Oh, the joyless task of searching for gainful employment. I managed to put it off as long as I could - I left school nearly seven years ago now and have at no stage been in any danger of finding a car...

Got the Horn?

I don't remember much about the Highway Code or anything to do with my driving theory test, despite having to (shamefully) take it twice, as it is now the better part of a decade ago and, as I have dr...
