About Me

This profile was edited with qnun.com Editor
Dawu Fe is a virtually self-taught musician/producer/song writer/artist from San Francisco, California. He began recording with neighborhood friends at the age of 14 using literally everything he could get his hands on that made noise.
Although he learned the fundamental skills of playing classical piano, organ, and clarinet during elementary and junior high school, his natural knack for playing traditional trap drums and a variety of percussions allowed him to express his love for dance and dance music. Rhythm remained the focus during his early stages of production and recording.
By the time Dawu Fe graduated high-school, it was obvious that eventually, Dawu's hybrid soul, rock, alternative, club, hip-hop, jazz fusion brand of sound would be heard worldwide.
Dawu Fe studied the art of recording with a cousin Dre a respected music producer/musician of "Eargasm Productions" currently operated out of San Jose, California. Dawu collaborated with Tony Ewing, an aspiring singer out of Sacramento based R&B group called The Jonez writing songs and performing in the Black Family Day celebration at UC Davis in 1989. Soon after that he began to develop his solo career. He began recording his demo with Joe Capers (Toni Tony Tone) with the assistance of Reggie Rugley who was then the sound engineer for The Whispers .
Dawu's soul, jazz, and club influenced style aroused much local interest in his production and writing skills, and sound clips even reached the ears of Al B Sure! who expressed interest in Dawu's sound.
Dawu Fe then tried his hand at club DJing which became more of the focus while music production became more of personal pastime. Althought this hiatus wouldnt last long, it help strengthen his skills as a producer. During ths time he met up with some popular SF resident DJs that witnessed his music production and performance skills he was once again called upon, to do his "magic". He went on to perform at several SF and Oakland venues with a variety of artists, performers, musicians and DJs.
Eclectic as a person and as an artist, it's sometimes difficult to define Dawu's style, until he was introduced to the CEO of SF based indie label Cellular Records, Ashley Allen.
Ashley was immediately taken by Dawu's creativity and hired Dawu as an in-house producer, a position Dawu honorably enjoys as he is allowed complete artistic freedom. It was with Cellular that Dawu received the opportunity to work with artists Tim'm West and LeGerald Normmand; producing pulsating dance music as well as soulful jazzy-hop compositions that would receive club and college radio play.
Dawu Fe has recorded with and produced for several West Coast artists including: respected rap group Tha Hillfigaz, Daz Dillinger of Tha Dogg Pound, B-Legit, Levitti, Chela Simone (Crowded Castle Productions INTERNAL GIRL), Azeem (FUK U WORLD from the Bomb Hip Hop Records Show Business), LeGerald Normmand (LETZ GET HIGH & MUSIC REVOLUTION 12" singles), Tim'm West (RED DIRT REVIVAL) a well respected professor, writer , MC and founding member of the radically progressive DEEPDIKCOLLECTIVE . His work with Tim'm West can be heard on Tim'm West's CD, SONGS FROM RED DIRT, and in the indie film SKI TRIP. Dawu Fe is currently working on his debut release; a compilation project that will feature his favorite collaborations and an album with Chela Simone. Dawu Fe now resides in Emeryville where he continues to move listeners with genuinely passionate, innovative soulful feel good music.
