Marie Layne was born in London, England on May 4, 1977. She moved to CA. at the age of 3. Layne's first stage performance was at the tender age of 5 for her grade school talent show. From there she sang in plays like "Annie" and "The Sound of Music". At age 13, Marie started writing her own songs and at age 16 recorded her first CD that sold in all three "The Wherehouse" locations in the Antelope Valley. The album's first single, "Baby It's You", was originally written and recorded in 1978 by the popular British band Racey, whose lead singer is Layne's cousin. Marie re-arranged the beat from rock to modern country for the album and the song received airplay on KMIX 106.3FM and 103.1 KTPI FM in Lancaster, CA., in Hawaii, and independent radio stations all over the world. From there, she landed the highest debut at number 47 on Airplay International's Hot 150 chart with "Country Song", a cut off the album that she wrote.
Marie traveled to Nashville several times recording under Foxfire Records releasing singles on Airplay International radio ready CD's. She received a gold record for Most Requested Song of 1993-1994 for "Country Song" and a King Eagle Award for Female Young Country Artist of the Year for 1994-1995.
At 18, Marie became the lead singer of the country band Motherlode and took them to the Great Western Forum, where the group beat out 27 other bands becoming Southern California's Band of the year for 1997. They also achieved such awards as the CCMA Vocal Group of the Year, and CCMA Band of the Year for 1997. Marie left the band in early 1998 and formed another country band, "Burning Bridges", which unfortunately broke up in 1999. Layne is continuing her solo career and is working with several impersonators and her brother, Dean Z in Branson, MO. (www.deanz.com). Marie wants to continue to record and her future ambitions are to sign with a major record label, make another CD, sing with McKenna Medley, open for some more major acts, and continue to perform her music.
