TEMA literally translates to "THEME" in the English language. But to be more precise, it would be something like "COOL," "INTERESTING," and "WONDERFUL."
TEMA's producer (Maugly Jr.) explains why he named the group that, in a quote: "We named the group TEMA because we want to surprise the listener..." The group has existed since May, of 2004. But the lineup has changed recently. Before, 2 other girls performed under the name "TEMA." As is always the case with groups, problems and conflicts became prominent, and the ex TEMA Girls were asked to leave, by their old producer.
Their producer is no stranger to the music business himself either. A former rapper turned music producer, composer, lyricist and manager. All while being the promotional manager, for the Russian partner of the large and powerful music firm, Warner Chappell. Recently, he let out a casting call for girls to join his group. Well, he found them. Alia and Mary recently released their first song, entitled "Pozvonyu." The song translates to "I'll Call" in English, and is about a friendly relationship, that was ripped at the seams, because of betrayal. This song is actually about the relationship Maugly Jr. shared, with his old girls, in the TEMA group.
But enough about the old, and on with the new! Recently, the TEMA group has gone through another lineup change. This time, the conflicts were minimal. Alia left on a business trip for her job, and Mary's father was very worried for his daughters safety in Moscow, after a recent incident that involved TEMA's producer, and a street gang. Mary has returned to Japan for the time being, while a new song is being created in English for TEMA's newest singer, Amy.
This song in English comes as no surprise, considering the fact that many of TEMA's listeners are in countries outside of the Russian federation. Regardless of the obvious language barriers many of TEMA's fans have, they are still rather popular in countries like the United States of America, Portugal, Spain, Mexico, Israel, Germany, Japan, and many other countries, that are too numerous to name. Because of this, the old TEMA group was going to sing in English. Several demo tracks were written, by Frederick Newton. A song writer from Los Angeles, California. After the group left their producer, these plans were scrapped.
What's next for TEMA? A lot! New songs are being created, and an album is expected sometime within the 2006-2007 year. The first music video featuring the virtual artist in TEMA is scheduled for an autumn release. The song will be in both Russian and English.
But is that all? No! Life, [just.like.our.group] is full of unexpected occurrences... What you may think to be true today, will be gone tomorrow. Surprises are just around the corner... So keep your eyes alert, and watch for the signs!
