Tunnels to Holland

About Me

Tunnels to Holland (TtH) sparked their initial connection late summer 2003 on a Central Jersey jug handle when singer Dan Blumig spotted drummer Anthony Mascolo drilling rudiments on the dash of bassist Brian Flaherty’s Honda. Blumig, who was on the prowl for musicians with which to work, quickly decided to flag down the car. What seemed like a chance encounter turned out to be kismet as Mascolo & Flaherty along with Mascolo’s brother Vincent (guitar) were seeking a singer. The Mascolo brothers and Flaherty had been playing in various projects since childhood and were eager to start something new. Completed later by herpetologist and wildlife guitarist Matt McCort TtH was born. .
Steven George, former drummer and co-founder of Ministry acted as a mentor to the band for years. The band is currently focused on touring and promoting the release of their album produced by Grammy winner Marc Swersky and mixed in the UK by Sean Genockey. A four song EP can be sampled then purchased via the band’s MySpace page.
The “Tunnels to Holland sound” is often deciphered to be a code of their influences ranging round David Bowie, Guided by Voices, Roy Orbison, Neil Young & Crazy Horse, The Pink Floyd and Tom Waits. Live audiences are easily drawn in and consistently stay with the band through the duration.
Along with receiving the most votes from their October 18th 2008 performance on Fox’s Fearless Music, allowing them to perform again. Tunnels to Holland have been seen at venues such as The Bowery Ballroom NYC, The Vogue IN, The Rechter Theater MD, The Paradise MA, The Stone Pony NJ, Malachi’s PA, CBGB’s NYC. Alongside such bands as the Duke Spirit (Sangrila), People in Planes, Low vs. Diamond, and Hurt (Capital). They recently performed at the CMJ Musical Festival at Arlene’s Grocery NYC on October 21st and was nominated for “Song of the Year” & “Top Rock Band” in the Asbury Park Music Awards. (2008)

Sounds Like: Listening to the self-titled EP from New Jersey band Tunnels to Holland is like going on a journey. Their style is like a roadmap of everything that is great about American rock & roll music. This stuff just oozes cool. Comparisons can be made to the music of The Doors, but listen more closely to hear inspiration from Tom Waits, Lou Reed, and more. But don't be fooled into thinking this is some sort of retro trip. This band is taking you somewhere new. - j.p. http://www.75orless.com/
