Each of these songs were constructed completely from sounds I recorded from single objects (hence the titles). The workflow went something like this: First, I took the objects and recorded myself making as many different sounds with them as possible for about 10 or 15 minutes. From that recording I cut small samples of the different sounds. Then I organized them into groups; the sounds I would use for melodies and the ones I would use for percussion. Some songs, like Pots and Pans, used as many as 80 different samples throughout the song, while others, like Banjo, used only 9. Once I had the samples chopped and organized, I brought them into FL Studio (midi composing and sequencing software) where I wrote and arranged the songs. These songs are all loop based. The percussion loops were programmed one note at a time. The melody loops were usually programmed in real-time using a midi keyboard. I used things like pitch shift, distortion, delays, reverb, phasers and tons of guitar effects on some samples. Many of the sounds are so heavily processed and altered that they completely lose their resemblance to the original sound, while others are used clean and unchanged, just as I recorded them.

Brainstorm is new EP I put together of some tracks which didn.'t appear on The Phaneron that I recently polished up because I felt these songs couldn't go to waste. It has a couple brand new songs as well. Unlike lots of my stuff, this EP contains no samples, so it has more of an ."electronic" edge to it due to the raw midi sequencing. psychedelic and cinematic tripped out beats. I like it.

The Phaneron is my latest complete full-length album, released in the summer of 06. ..Phaneron.. was a term I learned in my ethnographic films class (films ..ing an outsider group or culture). The word was originally coined by Charles Sanders Peirce, an American polymath, physicist and philosopher. He said, by "the phaneron, I mean the collective total of all that is in any way or in any sense present to the mind, quite regardless of whether it corresponds to any real thing or not." It's a notion. It's everything that the human experience tells you, which you receive through your five senses.

I started this project shortly after I saw the film for the first time. It was the first Vincent Gallo movie I saw and I..ve been a big fan of his acting/directing/music ever since. The soundtrack is amazing. I could just imagine all the tracks making great samples to work with the first time i heard it. So just experimenting I tried a little remix of ..Lonely Boy.. and ..Fools Rush In.. and loved how they turned out so much that the idea hit me to do the whole thing. This album was made simultaneously with The Phaneron so it has similar sound and vibe and actually almost the same amount of work/effort went into this. It turned out just like i imagined it.

This is probably my oldest recording which I..m still actually satisfied with. This EP kid of markes the start of where my sound is at today. Perhaps just a bit more repetitive than my newer stuff but its got some great melodies/samples and clean drum programing.
