Myspace Comments | Myspace Graphics | Myspace SurveysScott Sheldon was born and raised in Buffalo New York, where at age 8 he began his musical training by picking up the alto saxophone. By the end of junior high he had also picked up Tenor Saxophone and was playing in local big bands that specialized in the music of artists such as Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Glenn Miller, etc. By age 16 he was gigging around Buffalo, Canada, as well as other surrounding towns with many of the areas professional bands such as Skin Tight a local funk/blues band comprised of local professional musicians including Maurice Jones (who played with name acts such as Archie Bell and the Drells), and Lanis Hughes who is best known for his drumming with Rick James. While in Buffalo Scott studied saxophonist Ron Paladino and with legendary pianist Al Tinney who is know for his innovative work at Monroes Uptown House in NYC during the developmental years of bebop. In 1999 Scott continued his musical pursuits at The Ohio State University in Columbus Ohio, where he studied classical saxophone with James Hill, jazz saxophone with Eugene Walker, and jazz improvisation with trumpeters Pharez Whitted and Derrick Gardner. It was during this period that Scott co-led E.S.P. a straight ahead jazz group that played in the Columbus area. While in Columbus Scott studied and played with many jazz greats such as Marlon Jordan, Brad Lai-Lai, Joe Magnorelli, Jim Masters, Eugene Walker, and Eddie Bayard. In 2001 Scott continued his studies at the University of North Texas where he received his bachelors in Jazz Studies Performance in 2006. While at UNT Scott studied with many of the areas top players and was very active in the music scene of the Denton/Dallas-Fort Worth area. Scott specializes in the straight-ahead jazz, funk, and avante garde genres but can be found playing in just about any playing situation. Scott currently plays saxophone in The Inner City All-Stars Brass Band, and does his own freelance work in and around the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex area.
