The Fake Lauras started off as a three- piece group in the fall of 2004 after three friends discovered that they all shared a love for the almighty Iron Maiden. The founding members, Matt Stewart, Justin Taylor, and Kyle Friend, wanted to start a band that revolves around the music, not the fame. “ We wanted to show the world that there are still bands out there who want to make music, who live for the musicâ€, says lead singer and rhythm guitarist Kyle Friend. After several line up changes that included Justin Taylor moving from drums to bass (following a shoulder injury), the band finally found the missing piece of the puzzle in Desi Salazar, the new and permanent drummer. “ Desi is a drum Godâ€, says lead guitarist Matt Stewart, “ I couldn’t imagine this band with out him, he is like our brother.†Though Desi was originally recruited as a keyboardist, he soon showed the band how amazing he was as a drummer. With Desi on the drums The Fake Lauras were finally complete. “ I came into this band a fan, and I feel blessed every day that I get to share a stage with these guysâ€, says Desi. Now, seven months later, the band is rapidly moving up the ladder in the local scene. Having won Battle of the Bands 4, and countless house parties, the band has developed quite a following. “ To go out to like a store, or the mall or something and having a fan that you don’t even know walk up to you and say, ‘Hey! I love your band!’, that’s one of the greatest feelings you can getâ€, responds Kyle after being asked why he does this. “ We do this for the fansâ€, says Justin Taylor, “ Without the fans we wouldn’t be up on stage living out our dreams. We love our fans dearly and would do anything for them, just like they for us†The Fake Lauras have played countless shows at venues across the state such as: The Venue of Scottsdale, Minder Binders, Simply Noodles, ASU, The Brick House, The Four White Walls, The Rhythm Room, The Coffee Cricket, Cooperstown, and many, many house parties, some of which had to be shut down do to maximum occupancy level violations. With their talent, stage presence, and awesome live shows, this Metal/Punk band is unstoppable. “ We are four kids who came from nothingâ€, says Kyle, “ We want to show the world that you can come from absolutely nothing and still make it, i mean look at us, we're poor as hell! It doesn’t matter how much money you have or who your connections are, all that matters is good music that people can have a good time and bang their head to. We are four extremely determined guys who are willing to fight and crawl our way up from the bottom to achieve our dreams. Nothing is impossible.â€target="_blank"
