About Me

ABOVE: excerpt from the Great American Ballroom Challenge featuring my composition, "WALK WITH ME" on PBS I moved to rural PA three years ago after living in and around New York City my entire life. I graduated NYU with a degree in drama and co-founded an acting company with my classmates called The Atlantic Theater Company. Had some WONDERFUL teachers during that time including playwright/director David Mamet and actor/writer/director William H. Macy. Although I loved acting and the comraderie of theater, my true calling was and has always been music. I supported myself during and after my NYU days by playing piano in New York City piano rooms and hotel lobbies. In 1993 I recorded by first CD, HEAL OF THE HAND and never looked back. A small label in New England picked up that CD the following year and signed me to a six-record deal. I never stood in line for an acting audition again. I remember in that first recording session feeling I was finally "at home" , doing what I was meant to do.
I fell in love with photographer Larry Kosson in 1994 who I met ON-LINE when AOL had fewer than a million users (!). We got married in 1995.We have one fabulous little girl who is now in second grade.
Anyway, the advertising photography business went south after 9/11 and so we started a new business together, SMG Artists, which is an artist booking agency. We also have our own little label and publishing company that handles my recordings and sheet music. We love working together, although we keep separate offices in the house because I am a neat freak and he is on the phone all day (and I want to listen to music while I work on iTunes!) When I am not touring or working on new music, I love spending time in my garden.
I do a lot of "behind the scenes" work in the music biz for myself as well as for the other artists on the roster and I love that. I love being an indie musician. I had record deals and publishing deals and agents..but now having a label, publishing company and agency under my own roof is really where I want to be. That way I am in control of my own destiny....so if I fail, I have no one to blame but myself. What motivates me each day? The fact that if I do nothing today, NOTHING will happen!
Career highlights include 14 CDs, 5 songbooks, being named to the prestigious "STEINWAY ARTIST ROSTER", making my Carnegie Hall debut in 1997, touring through rural Montana for 3 weeks, and working with American Music Therapy Association as their Artist Spokesperson. I have been touring this beautiful country since 1996, playing in concert halls solo and occasionally on double bills. In 2004 I made my Asian debut at the Seoul Arts Center in Seoul, Korea on a double bill and returned Nov 2006 as a solo artist in Seoul and Busan.
