About Me
My name is Anders Ahlstrom and I'm living in Gothenburg, Sweden. I am an active hobby musician playing the valve trombone. Since I retired from corporate business a few years ago, I have had more time to practice and gig. Though still doing consultancy jobs as a senior adviser in corporate communications, I have the flexibility to attend various jazz happenings such as the IAJE conferences, the North Sea Jazz festivals (in 2006 it moved from the Hague to Rotterdam), jazz seminars & workshops such as the Lake Placid seminars with faculties including Bob Brookmeyer, Dave Liebman, Joe Lovano, Bob Mintzer, Jim McNeely, Kenny Werner, Rufus Reid, Gary Peacock, Billy Hart. Also attended the Jazz Workshops at the Amsterdam Conservatory in cooperation with the Manhattan School of Music with faculties including Dick Oatts, Mike Abene, Gary Dial, and a number of Dutch top musicians.I'm an ear-player who enjoys improvising, without any deeper knowledge in music theory (never attended any music school), and I'm constantly struggling with the mechanics of the valve trombone.Anyway, I greatly enjoy playing at the Tuesday jam-sessions at the Nefertiti Jazz Club here in Gothenburg, Sweden (and lately - as of March 2007 - at "herr Nilsen" jazz club in Oslo, Norway).Other hobbies: downhill skiing (been doing it in the Swiss, Italian and Austrian Alps, in Vail, Aspen and Whistler, Canada, and of course, in the Swedish and Norwegian mountains); Slavic languages; presently studying Italian; reading about jazz, recently "Footprints" on Wayne Shorter, Horace Silver's autobiography, and a monograph on Sonny Rollins. And most recently (Jan, 2007): "Lee Morgan. His Life, Music and Culture".PS: Hope to add some music soon.
