Darian Dauchan is an accomplished solo performer and actor who has appeared on both Broadway(Twentieth Century starring Alec Baldwin and Anne Heche) and Off Broadway theatre(Jean Cocteu Rep., Classical Theatre of Harlem). TV creds include the original Law and Order and Nickelodeon's Bet the House as Darian "The Sound FX" Guy. His first self-scripted solo piece Fallen Patriots, which chronicles the life of 3 African American Soldiers during 3 of America's biggest wars, WWII, Civil War, and the Vietnam War, received limited engagements at the Access Theatre, New York International Fringe Festival (produced by Real Theatre Works), and the Nuyorican Poets Cafe. He has appeared on the show On The Real with Chuck D on Air America Radio, promoting Fallen Patriots for the college circuit, spearheaded by Quo Vadimus Arts(www.qvarts.org), a non-profit organization, in which he was made the 2006 Artist in Residence. Fallen Patriots is also now currently on the roster for Young Audiences New York. His second solo effort entitled Entertainers Eulogy, about African American's in the entertainment industry, has had workshops and readings with the Roundabout Theatre Company, Classical Theatre of Harlem, Lark Play Development Center, and will be apart of The Playhouse on the Square’s Solo Works Series in July of 2009 in Memphis, TN. His most recent solo piece Media Madness, a political satire, had its world premiere at the Kitchen Theatre's Counter Culture Series in Ithaca, NY. Also most recently, his first screenplay Kalfou(A Crossroads Tale) co-written with his sister Desha Dauchan was selected into the Film Independent’s 2008 Screenwriters Lab, home to the popular Spirit Awards, and the L.A. Film Festival. In the past 3 years Darian has also embraced the art of Spoken Word and within his first three months had won slams at all three major poetry venues in New York City including the legendary Nuyorican Poets Cafe, Bowery Poetry Club and Bar 13. In addition he has competed as a semifinalist in all three venues, was a member of the 2006 Nuyorican Poetry Slam Team, was crowned the 2007 Grand Slam Champion for the Bowery Poetry Club's Urbana Slam Team, and was a 2008 Nuyorican Grand Slam Finalist. He has toured across the country at poetry venues, including the famous Green Mill in Chicago, and has also performed at colleges that include the prestigious Yale University and New York University. His popular Obama poem during the historic 2008 election has received over 60,000 views on YouTube and counting. His first spoken word album entitled Darian Dauchan(Live): The Big Apple Recordings is now available at PoetCD.com. He's currently spearheading the Spoken Word Almanac Project, a poetry collective committed to writing poems on current world events, and was commissioned to develop a spoken word show for Lincoln Center's Meet the Artist Series. He’s also a Mentor for Urban Word NYC, a grassroots non-profit organization that provides free, safe, uncensored and ongoing writing and performance opportunities for NYC teens. Most recently, he received an artist in residency at the Dance Theatre Workshop as apart of the 2009-10 Studio Artist Series, as well as forming the newly minted band The Mighty Third Rail with musicians Ian Baggette and Curtis Stewart, a combination of spoken word, beatboxing, violin, and stand up bass.
