Influences: Every other Saturday my mom and I would clean house and listen to nothing but stevie wonder albums. Moms had every album—most on CD some even on cassette tape. I would always listen for my mom’s raspy warm falsetto like a quilt thrown over Stevie’s vocals. She followed his phrasing to the letter and she sung his runs effortlessly like they belonged to her. I would sing along softly, unsure. Not so much of the notes but of the lyrics and what they meant. Over time my mom had acquired Stevie’s whole body of work. From the "little" Stevie Wonder of the 60's to the early 90's music. I knew all the lyrics to every album by heart, and was picking out harmonies even my mother didn't catch. We kept this routine for 6 years. It was some of the best times I spent with moms as a child and my first introduction to good, timeless music.
