As a child, Joshua Boyd (aka Jstavo) seemed to get attention wherever he went. As he grew up, he would do talent shows and many other events he could. At ages 3 & 4, Joshua’s parents were stationed in Japan because of the military. He preformed, and won dance and singing contests on a famous Japanese television show called Funky Kids. When moving to the United States, he ventured out and decided to carry on the life of a normal child. While doing this, he tried other hobbies such as track and field for six years, and took on the alto saxophone for 4 years.
After a 13-year hiatus, he found that his love was still with music. Even though he was never serious about where his singing ability was going to go, he felt that it was time to take his music far beyond the showerhead of his bathroom. At 17, he formed a duet with a girl from his high school (Garfield Senior High School). Within the year of 2005, they accomplished much successes such as performances in talent showcases, family oriented events, and other venues. Their most appealing performances were in NYC at the famous Cotton Club, Sugar Shack, and the Showtime at the Apollo. Later that year, the duet split but still staying friends and musically inclined with each other. He was then accepted to Delaware State University in the fall of 2005.
In 2007, Jstavo is now on the verge of his solo career, with his unique writing ability and his new found confidence in his talent; he is now striving to become one of the top rising artists in the industry. He is now taking his music further than he could ever imagine. Jstavo has his hands in a writing/publishing company, (Tha Bridge Ink Inc.), as well as starting on his EP “Hidden Messagesâ€.
“Hidden Messages†gives people a taste of Jstavo’s writing creativity as well as his vocal talent. Straying away from the usual R&B topics of today, he brings back the masculine, in your face but slick and smooth wordplay that was used in the 70’s. With songs that span from love, sex, and flirting to cheating, heartbreak, and anger, he touches on every subject that anyone can relate to. With the help of up and coming artists and producers, listeners will hear a new form of R&B.“IM NOT TRYING TO BRING R&B BACK, THERE’S ENOUGH ARTISTS TRYING TO DO THAT… I’M JUST TRYING TO TAKE U TO THAT PLACE WHERE R&B TOOK ME,â€
