It's funny the type of events that happen in a persons life that makes them open their eyes. Whether it be the death of a loved one, finding Christ, or finding that one special person that makes you feel alive. I can't remember the last time I felt so alive. Being here in Afghanistan has opened my eyes to the real world. Waking up every morning not knowing what's gonna happen. No such things as routines here, we just live one day at a time. Keeping my mind clear of all that has happened so far and trying to look at what's ahead of me.
What is ahead of me, ...well hopefully more than meets the eye. Knowing that while I am here overseas, there are still parts of me back home that makes me remember i was once human. Having loved ones waiting and worrying about me on a daily basis. Leaving my family was not an easy thing, any soldier will tell you that. But we have found a new family within ourselves here in the midst of danger.
Everyone of us is connected in one way or another that lets us exist one shity day at a time. No one will ever understand back at home that eventhough we have loved ones waiting for us back home, we have guys here that depend on us as well. I guess the stakes are much high here since it could be a matter of life or death.
Going back to my family is ..1 on my list. I will not hesitate in what i have to accomplish here, and I hope everyone back home can understand that. If a battle buddy needs me, I will be there no questions asked!
My family back home is amazing. I have been lucky enough to keep both my parents around my entire life. That's a luxury many people can not boast about. I have always looked to my familiy for guidance and love. I was not always receptive, but I always took in account what they said or did. I am happy to be a Uehara, and there wouldn't be another last name I would rather have. My father, mother, and brother are my inspiration in what a hard-working, no bullshit attitude will get you. And if you know my family that's the way they like it, and hell, it's worked.
My wife is my inspiration as well. She has gone through so much turmoil through here life, that it's amazing she has come stronger, and not defeated. No one could ever change that in my mind. Being strong is one of the things I admire in people, and she has all the strength one can possess. I am proud of here in everyway possible. She is my angel from above that was sent to me to guide me in the right direction. She is not just another person I will meet through my life, she is my life. She's the air I breath, the strength in my heart, and the soul I desperately need.
I can admit that I am not perfect. It takes a person sometime to find themselves. And frankly, it has taken me 29 years and a deployment to realize that my life could not be any better. God deals you a hand, and it's your decision whether to keep your hand and work with it, or fold. No way in hell I gonna fold these cards. I will make what I can of this life, and hopefully I make the people closest to me proud.
Opening my eyes to the world has come in the most unbelievable atmosphere. The people here are amazing.
They all struggle here for life, and believe that what ever happens is what there god has foreseen for them. I believe " there's no fate but what we make.", we are given all we have for a reason. And I am in control of what paths I take and the consequences that come with them.
Again, finding my self here was not what I had expected from this all. And while here i have encountered death, found Christ, and that special someone.
