Shine On
The Shining are heading for the bright lights.
Certain bands exude a certain warmth; bands who can bathe you in a honeyed glow and lift your spirits with the keenness of their melody and sureness of foot. The Shining are such an entity. The Darlington based outfit have been together for 8 years now and such longevity and constant gigging is very evident on the sheer effortless grace they have weaved on their latest album, “What It’s All About”. They deal in classic pop/rock and combine the tune-smithery of the 60’s with the flare of 70’s psychedelia to produce a full bodied sound full of soul. As mentioned above the band (Ron Hewison, Vocals; Stuart Davidson, Guitar; Phil Davidson, Bass; Jon Bethell, Keyboards; Stuart Foster, Drums; Jon Metcalf, Rhythm Guitar) have enjoyed the current line up for 8 years now and their obvious familiarity with each other has paid dividends with this deeply coherent album which has also been produced by the band.

The Shining: What It's All About

For a town with so much musical talent it's suprising that Darlington has failed to find a band with real commercial clout so far. Is that all about to end? The latest album by The Shining has considerable appeal thanks to the growing composition confidence of the Davidson brothers, Philip and Stuart, on all 11 tracks and frontman Ron Hewison's husky Seger like vocals. Enormous depth has been added to the long time band's range and the other band members Jon Bethell, Stuart Foster and John Metcalf deserve credit for an album without a single weak song. The style is rock and indie inspired, shifting between jaunty and Nashville-edged ballads, Well worth checking out!
