My name is Sam Roman and I am a singer and storyteller. I've never liked calling myself a singer/songwriter, I think the previous label better suits what I do. This is MY story:
I was born and raised in Pinner, the childhood home of the great Elton John. From a very early age, I loved to sing and create. I hated being average. In-fact I still do!
I was the loud one, the youngest child in a big family. At school, I was the stereotypical class clown with enough charm to avoid ever getting in real trouble.
I hated school, I hated lessons and homework, I could never understand why my teachers lacked my vision of a goal greater than academic achievement. It was in the music room that I evolved into what I am now. By the age of 13, I had a grade 8 in drums, a budding skill on the guitar and a music scholarship to a secondary school that I despised.
At 16 I left school with an A* in a music exam that I finished with just enough time to write a song before the bell rang. 2 weeks later I recorded that song in Sweden and it was then sold to Atlantic Records who used it for their artist Pretty Ricky. Things were going to plan!
I signed to a management team and worked with some great producers and songwriters. I eventually released a soul album called "Giving my life". Although I loved the album and songs I wrote for it, I never felt comfortable with the genre. In 2006 I redefined who I was as an artist.
My work as a writer changed dramatically. I found myself writing about everything from a homeless man that I met on the steps of the British Museum, to fantasies of alien abduction.
Now I find myself here, ready to start what I was sent here to do. I am a completely real person. I make music, I love people enjoying it and I hope that all of you do! If you want to contact me then feel free to, I will try to personally answer as many emails as possible. Enjoy everything that I have to offer and I hope that we see each other again soon.
Sam...
