Born in Cornwall and growing up in Devon Bryher was influenced from a young age by her parents and their love for music.Once she had learnt to talk, endlessly singing nursery rhymes became her favourite pastime!Another parental influence came from watching musicals such as Kiss Me Kate, Calamity Jane, West Side Story and Singing In The Rain. “You name it we watched itâ€, Bryher recalls, “my sister Heather and I would watch the Sound Of Music over and over with this often resulting in us pretending to be Liesl von Trapp prancing around singing 16 Going On 17â€!Performing in many a School play Bryher consistently kept up her love for music and subsequently learnt to play the acoustic guitar to accompany herself singing solo. Although not actually able to read music despite intending to, Bryher writes on the guitar by using chord sequences. When Bryher reached Richard Huish College in 2002 she was lucky enough to be one of the artists chosen for the Colleges new record label ‘Studio 6’ and recorded her first solo five track EP ‘Airs and Graces’. This was launched at Taunton’s Virgin Mega Store and copies sold out over the following six months. In May 2005 during the success of ‘Airs and Graces’, Bryher was asked to sing at Cornish Comedian Jethro’s club by where she performed live and footage was aired on Sky television’s ‘The New Variety Show’ on Sound TV.In 2006 Bryher organised a charity event at her local village hall raising money for the local Pre School in their bid for a brand new building. The total amount raised for the Pre School was over £1000. This was a great achievement for Bryher and she says, “I remember going to this Play School as it was called then, and having many a happy day painting, making and running around in a Snow White outfit. So to be able to put something back into that and help make a difference was very rewardingâ€.Shortly after finishing college Bryher collaborated with fellow Richard Huish student and friend Nick Sutton (AKA Little Rabbit) where they achieved a fantastic sound of electronic meets acoustic/folk. One of their songs ‘Violet Light’ made it into the top 5 selected pieces for the renowned Apple International Music Awards. After two years in the writing Bryher’s debut album ‘For Ivy’ is ready to launch! Bryher’s songs are delicate and intimate, yet her lyrics paint powerful images in such a way that is so sympathetic for someone of only 22 years. Bryher says, “I love to write about beautiful landscapes, emotion, places, but most of all about people – they interest me the mostâ€.As for the future Bryher states, “I’m not doing this to become famous, I simply love to sing and write songs that mean something to me and only hope that I can reach out to others and that they can feel the sameâ€.
