About Me

Gary O'Brien was born in Brighton the son of a professional ice hockey player. He came to music in his late twenties after he moved to London in the early nineties and started songwriting with his Landlord of the time. After a chance meeting with an old friend, they formed the band Don and were quickly signed to London Records and Warner Publishing. They recorded their debut album at Abbey Road Studios with producer Mike Hedges and Mark (Spike) Stent as the Mixman. Back on the road, they toured with Echo and the Bunnymen, Cast, Delamitri, Mansun and Space. The band split in 1998 due to creative and chemical differences. Since then Gary has worked on solo projects: an E.P. co-produced with Fred Ball from Pleasure and an acoustic album with his new band Lucho. The album was written in Ireland and completed in April last year with the help of slide guitar man Chris Whittingham and drummer Nick Rye.More recently Gary and Nick have been collaborating on a new album called "Hell Heaven and Earth". Self produced and recorded in 2 weeks, in a beautiful converted barn this album has seen Lucho finding a newer, more organic sound. With Gary on acoustic guitar and Nick on piano and drums they also pulled in some great musicians; Lisa Featherston on double bass, Jonathan Hill on Violin, Alan Twist on Electric bass, Mark Saxby on Electric guitar and Big Al and John on horns, The Album is now mixed and is available to download on the Lucho myspace page.
