Being a good woman...by this I mean everything from de-fatting chicken to trying to understand how infants work. Driving around semi-recklessly. My cell phone. The brightly colored flowers planted around the church down the street...they close up at night and I find that fascinating. Breasts. Libraries. The free store in Shelburne Falls. Wishing and hoping. Preparing myself for the onslaught of life. Looking up cute dog breeds from books. Trying to cook West Indian food. Kathy Acker photos. My mom's French friends. Blank notebooks.
People who are very comfortable with their genders, sexualities, and physical bodies (of all shapes and sizes). Artistic, creative, and funny individuals. Anyone who likes to play 1. scrabble 2. uno 3. swilldines 4. guitar. Oh, and most definitely plus-sized fashion designers that need their proverbial horizons expanded.
This week: Feeling Good-Nina Simone, Janis Joplin, tangos, and really gay 70's songs.
Waters/Almodovar/Varda films. Rear Window, City of God, Mean Girls, Beavis and Butthead Do America, Superstar, Return to Oz, How High, Monster, 28 Days Later, Annie, anything with Chloe Sevigny, Natasha Lyonne, Thora Birch, Christina Ricci, Janeane Garafalo (?) or Maggie Gyllenthal (?). don't have one any more, but here are some shows I miss or wish I could be seeing: Surreal Life (DaBrat is HOT!), America's Funniest Animals, everything on HGTV, Strip Search, Ellen, Oprah, Jeopardy, Adoption Stories, most shows on TLC, Dr. 90210 (even as I cringe and yell at the TV), that show where people think they're alone and sing in their cars. Ha ha...losers. Ripley's Believe it or Not, Law and Order: SVU, Without a Trace, What Not to Wear, Bargain Hunt.
Jennifer Weiner novels, Barbara Kingsolver novels (particularly NOT Poisonwood Bible), Tom Robbins novels (my fav. is Jitterbug Perfume), Assata by Assata Shakur, Valencia-Michelle Tea, everything by Audre Lorde, everything by Patrick Califia (but esp. Transgender Politics, 2nd. ed.), Sublime Mutations-Del LaGrace Volcano, Gregory Maguire's first two novels, all Anne Rice, all Poppy Z. Brite, and so so many more...
Hanne Blank. Kathy Acker. Del LaGrace Volcano. Patti Smith. The Ladies from Big Burlesque. The people who work for Doctors Without Borders. This probably sounds weird, but Kunta Kinte. My high-spirited and ambitious friends.
