If there is one thing TASHA is passionate about, it’s moving images. She has no preference when it comes to the video vs. film phenomenon; she treats every project differently and proceeds accordingly. In her eyes it's all about the aesthetic and treatment at hand for each individual project. As a child she often escaped into her own world via a pen and a pad. Writing has always been something that was natural to her. It’s no surprise she studied Scriptwriting in College. During that time she realized that she wanted to be more involved in the visual side of creating screenplays and what better way to do that than to get behind the lens of the camera.
Even though Tasha had a child shortly after finishing College, it NEVER deterred her from following her dreams . If anything, it only propelled the fire within her even more. She had heard about a youth video production program which was taking place at a local Media Arts centre. She applied and was accepted. Over the span of seven months she was educated with first hand experience in all aspects of video production. She worked on several small productions, a public service announcement and also made her very first documentary entitled “Freestylzâ€, which was deeply received among the public and her peers and even garnered her some press coverage. After getting her video fix she went on to do workshops in filmmaking. She found it easy to grasp as she was able to draw on knowledge gained from past experiences.
Tasha admits she is a long way from where she wants to be but for this fierce woman of color is content that she has accomplished quite a lot in such a short time. Her films and videos have been screened at festivals, film challenges and Media Arts centers. In October of 2007, she was featured in an article in Ottawa Magazine (Special thank you to Ottawa Mag and Fatima Sayani)and her image was chosen to grace the cover. She continues to stay active in the community by immersing herself in the Media Arts as much as possible. She teaches video production workshops and is an active board member in the arts.
Not only does Tasha enjoy creating her own videos and films but she freelances particularly as an EDITOR & DIRECTOR . She’s done a bit of everything; experimental, narrative, music videos, weddings, you name it. Being an independent video/filmmaker, she proudly wears the hats of: Director, Producer, Camera Operator, Editor/Compositor . The Sky is the Limit as far as this young woman is concerned. “If you want something badly enough you just have to go out there and get it! No ifs, ands or buts about it.†Those are words she chooses to live by.
Currently, Tasha is working on a couple of music videos for local artists, a new movie script, and has recently decided to shift her energies to the front of the lens as the newest co-host for “Hold it Down Media†. She’s also a part of the Incradouble Inc. team. When you enjoy what you do, it’s makes life easy. And when you work with passionate people it helps make your job that much easier.
