JERRY SNELL
Director/Actor/Musician/ComposerOriginally from Vancouver, interdisciplinary artist Jerry Snell is internationally renowned for the excellence of his work, widely presented since 1980 in Europe, North and South America, and throughout Asia.Snell was one of the founding members of the company Carbone 14 (1980-1995) where he worked as actor, singer, musician, director, musical director and choreographer. Considered as “one of the pillars of C-14†(La Presse, 1995) and noted by the critics for his role as stage director and musical director of Krieg, “Carbone 14’s most poetic performance...†(La Presse, 1993). His film and television career spanned over 20 years and has included acting roles in such films as Jean-Claude Lauzon’s Night Zoo, Vincent Ward’s Map of the Human Heart, Francois Girard’s Emmy award-winning Le Dortoir and 15 février 1839 by Pierre Falardeau.In 1996, he co-founded in Paris the physical theatre company STP and co-created a dozen original works that enjoyed extensive international tours. In 2004 he founded his own multi-media company JERRY SNELL INDUSTRIES currently based in Montreal and Taipei.As a musician/composer, Snell has written and composed for film, dance, theatre and live performance. His first CD: LIFE IN THE SUICIDE RIOTS (1993, Ambiances Magnétiques) and has been performed in concert and also used by C-14 for their creation and film Blind Man’s Café. Excerpts from this CD were used in the theatre production “Fire Face†in Belgrade, Yugoslavia. In Autumn 2001, he wrote and produced his second record CASH, the album (La Tribu). His latest works on CD are Bone (Bros) and Cages of Steel. Currently he is composing for the Tai Gu Tales Dance Theatre of Taiwan.
