People who discourage your ambitions are flatterers, for you live what they never dared dream.

"...and then I was in time again, hearing the watch. It was Grandfather's and when Father gave it to me he said, Quentin, I give you the mausoleum of all hope and desire; it's rather excrutiating-ly apt that you will use it to gain the reducto absurdum of all human experience which can fit your individual needs no better than it fitted his or his father's. I give it to you not that you may remember time, but that you might forget it now and then for a moment and not spend all your breath trying to conquer it. Because no battle is ever won he said. They are not even fought. The field only reveals to man his own folly and despair, and victory is an illusion of philosophers and fools."----William Faulkner

My Interests

I have found that all things are of interest because all things have to do with people. What is so important as people? You speak to me of "the environment" and "save the whales" and "hug the polar bears" - for what reason but the sake of people? Of all people, intellectuals are most amusing, for they demonstrate how one can know everything and still be a complete dumbass.

I'd like to meet:

Someone who doesn't mind disagreeing. It is much the buisiness of intelligent people to disagree. It is often the only practical value they possess. In other words, I am something of an elitist. So if you are an aritist or someone who takes an intellectual attitude toward life, you are welcome; however, if you are an ordinary working joe down to the mill plant, then you are very welcome.

Music:

After all, it can't always be Bach or Beethoven. Sometimes it must be Louis Armstrong, Robert Johnston, or Jim Croce. Sometimes it must be Pink Floyd, The Doors, or U2, and sometimes it is traditional Celtic or Scotish Folk.

Movies:

My movie biases are as follows: Ingmar Bergman's The Seventh Seal is one of the greatest movies of all time. Any movie is better with Orson Welles in it. David Lean's The Bridge on the River Kwai makes me want to direct. Sequals make me want to murder hollywood executives.

Television:

George Carlin - Who Really Controls America

Add to My Profile | More Videos Television is interesting, because the best programing I've seen in recent days are cartoons.

Books:

I most admire James Joyce and Gustave Flaubert. Faulkner's experiments in stream of consciousness were important works, and should be studied, but should never be imitated. I suppose one of the most endearing characters in all of American literature is Hucklebury Finn.

Heroes:

Everyone who ever loved something more than his or herself. Anyone who has ever tried to contribute something for the good of humanity. So I have lots of heros, like this: Winston Churchill Mahatma Gandhi: Martin Luther King Jr. .....and many more.
