My story...
I was born in Sligo in February 1977. Twelve years later I learned to play the guitar and soon discovered that entertaining people with a bunch of popular songs could cover up all kinds of personality defects. About twelve years after that, perhaps a bit bored of singing Creedance Clearwater Revival songs for drunken Scandinavians, I wrote my first song above an Irish pub in Oslo. Eventually returning to the stability of a sensible day job, I wrote more songs and even began to add one or two of them to my set lists when I played from time to time in bars around Geneva and further afield.
Fast forward to August 2008 when I took a small selection of my songs into a recording studio back home in Ireland. With the help of Gavin and Aonghus Ralston, Tom Domican and Maeve Sweeney I've finally got a few professional sounding demos.
If you like the songs, please let me know. If you're a producer, publisher or professional recording artist that would like to buy one of them from me, then please get in touch - I think you'll find I'm quite open to the idea!
June 2009: I've moved to Amsterdam... hopefully more musical adventures await.
(In case you're wondering, my name is pronounced "owen".)

The radio show I did on Radio Cité last week is available online now to listen or download. I must say, it's a bit difficult for me to listen to myself speaking in French, but overall I guess it's not...

My first airplay! (and more ding dongs)

This weekend will see me getting my first ever radio airplay for my own songs. Thanks to a recommendation from Joel Lucas, who I met at an open mic night a couple of months ago, the guys at Azimut FM ...

Christmas gig & Christmas song...

I'm looking forward to playing my final gig of the year this coming Saturday in Charly O'Neill's. If I'm feeling suitably festive I'll probably throw in a few Christmas songs - and top of that list wi...

Back to the countryside...

Just a quick update: myself and David "one third of Hipster" Graham headed off to Lamastre again last week to try to write some new stuff. We were sans Nigel this year as he had some mysterious acti...

Download them all for free!

I've made all of the tracks on this page, along with the seventh from the session in August (And I Hope) available for download from my new website. The site is deliberately very simple, partly as I'm...

Some distance to go...

I suppose it's the start of a new chapter in my musical activities: a couple of weeks ago I popped back to Ireland to spend two days in a studio with professional session musicians recording what I'm ...

The final version?

Just last night I was noodling about on the guitar - supposedly getting back into singing and playing in advance of this weekend's gig in Neuchâtel - when I started working on There's No Me With...

8 chords, 2 whiskeys and the truth

Bit of a funny week last week, ending with me home alone on Friday evening. So I cracked open a bottle of Jameson and sat down with my guitar to see whether inspiration would strike.... And strike it ...

6000!

Somebody's been over-dosing on my songs - over night I've broken through the 6000 plays barrier. It's not quite Arctic Monkey's, overnight MySpace sensation stuff, but it's still very nice that people...

Take 3

Thanks to useful feedback from friends (and girlfriend), and also to an unusual attack perseverance or (limited) perfectionism from myself, I'm now onto version 3 of "There's no me without you". But I...
