I'm a 30yr old ex Ice Hockey Player from Berkshire, UK.This time last year, to the day, | started being violently ill. Wasn't sure what was going on, as Doctors were telling me that I was Depressed, and had Gastroenteritis (if that's how it's spelt). The trouble is, that when you hear Doctors tell you that, you start to believe it. Until we had the Mental Health people out to find out why I was, as Doctors said "Depressed". After about 2hrs of prying into my personal life, and me losing my dinner over them, they told me that I wasn't depressed. I was showing some signs of it, due to me bein ill, but they wouldn't sign me off as depressed. PHEW!! Until, my Doctor then made me an appointment at the hospital to have an MRI Scan. Then the Bomb was dropped!! I had a Tumour the size of a peach pushing my brain against the roof of my skull, and blocking the natural fluid that your brain generates, from being drained. Causing me to start having a stroke on my left hand side. My face was drooping on the left, and I was dragging my left leg when walking. All makes sense now!!! They said to me that I had to be operated on. They suggested that I go to the Radcliffe Infirmary in Oxford for the operation, as they perform a "Craniotomy" about 4 times a day. Whereas others do it 4 times a year. They were absolutely fantastic there. I was amitted at about 10pm on Wednesday 6th April 2005, and was worsening by the hour. One of the Surgeons said to my father that we have to Operate now, or he will not be here come Sunday. They put 2 drains in my head that drained off the fluid that was causing the stroke. I felt like the old me, as soon as I came back on to the Ward. My parents came to my bed, and I was munching on Rice Krispies!!! COME ON!!! Anyway, I had those drains in for 9 days. Then I had to have the major operation, to remove the tumour. 9hr operation, 30 stiches, and 70 odd staples from ear to ear. OUCH!!! Anyway, I came out of hospital on the 25th April 2005. My birthday funnily enough. Had a few more hospital visits. Spent another 6 weeks in hospital between coming out the first time, and the end of June. Had to have a 3rd op too. I'm still here though, so I owe them my life which is why we're pulling out all the stops to raise money for them. Only downside is that I lost the sight in my left eye. They say that it might come back. Still too early to tell.Your results:
