About Me

Abraham Gibson was born in Sangamon County, Illinois on Bob Dylan's 34th Birthday. He lived there until 1979, when his family moved to Tucson, Arizona where they remained until 1983.He returned to Springfield, where he attended middle and high school. He has likened his experience in Springfield to living in a theme park with no rides.After graduating in 1993, he began a series of moves that took him back to Tucson. From Tucson he went to Iowa City, Iowa, and was finally drawn to Austin, Texas in 1996.He lived in Austin from 1996-2004, where he published the Pitchfork Poetry Magazine. He also played in Los Wrink Lays- an art damaged garage rock band. Various other members included John "taco" Stobaugh, Luke Dangeliesen, Ian Williamson, And the late John Graham. He had a one man band called Baby Greasy. He also performed improvised music as the muggy fuggy with spoken word artist, Billy Cope.He moved to Chicago with his wife Jessica in 2004. In Chicago he performed in the groups- The Atonal Boners, The End of the World Band, Chicago Guitar Ensemble, Plastic Crimewave Vision Celestial Guitarkestra, and Fred Lonberg-Holm's Lightbox Orchestra.He also also performed in ad hoc groupings with Paul Giallorenzo, Brian Dibblee, Mari Akita, Daniel Carter, Brian Labycz, Bill MacKay, P. Michael Grego, and travis from ONO.A widely published poet, his work has appeared in Chiron Review, Nerve Cowboy, Zen Baby, Freefall, Barbaric Yawp, Chance Magazine, and many others. He is also the author of several chapbooks including, Farmboy Blues, Acidhead Canyon Blues, New Shattered Patterns and the Murmurwall Conspiracy, and The Strawberry Distortion.In 2007 he started The Silver Wonder Press and the Silver Wonder Recording Company. They have released music and poetry from Steve Dalachinsky, Loren Connors, Robert O'Neal, Guy R. Beining, and Lee Ranaldo.He is currently at work on his first non-fiction book- We Don't Exist, a biography of Arizona's Meat Puppets.
