About Me

As a newcomer to the producing game, Stephen M. Ellis a.k.a “Keyz” has been a part of the music game both directly and indirectly all of his young life. Born on the 6th of February in 1982 during the rise of music in the industry, on the radio and in the mainstream community, there were many influences of producers like Prince, George Clinton, Brandon Cox, Fred Hammond and legendary artist’s like 9th Wonder, Stevie Wonder, Raphael Saddiq and D’Angelo that caused Keyz to decide that music production would be the career path for him.Keyz has been making noise as long as he can remember. He has memories (at age two) of standing in front of anything when a drum-set wasn’t available and banging. As he aged, his family began to see music in him and they realized what they thought was noise had become a sound that he would later be introduced to the world as a new urban classic. His early musical interest was not surprising considering the musical background of his family. His mother along with her sisters and brothers formed a group of singers (The Perry’s) and musicians skilled in their craft. Their music was heard by local churches and during family gatherings. Like most kids growing up in the city, Keyz went through some hardships: broken home, single father of 3 and a high school dropout. However, the drive for Keyz didn’t stop with his life’s challenges he was persistent and determined to get his sound out to the world. A drummer at heart, he began to explore other musical instruments seeing the world of music as a motley of sounds thrown together for one distinct perfect sound. Keyz had to have that perfect sound but he knew that he also had to get a proper education. He went back and received his GED and his road to a dream started. Keyz believed that there was nothing that he couldn’t accomplish and decided to try the production aspect of music. He realized that production got that perfect sound to the world. And after studying production through hard work and long nights, Keyz concluded that production was his key to success and he has been going strong ever since. Keyz got his start in music in the church. He has played for various churches, Oil of Joy Ministries, Peace Baptist Church, Monument of Love Church of God in Christ, Mount Zion AME, and AME Conference of Bishops. Keyz has worked with many artists, Tonya Blount, Heiress, Dorinda Clark, Bruce Parham, Darius Brooks, and Greg Peacock; at many studios, Atmosphere Studios (Baltimore, MD), Synergy Studios (Towson, MD), Studio 609 (Philadelphia, PA), Precise Studios (Hampton, VA) and Night sky Studios (Waldorf, MD) and worked with various producers and entertainment companies, Tone Moore, Ryan Hurley, Jay Harmon, Dre and Vidial, and Ill Skillz Entertainment. Keyz is currently working with artists, Orentia and Arleisha Marshall.
