Being an artist has afforded me the luxury of seeing things in a different way and experiencing things that most people have never dreamed of...In 1986 I worked for Filene's Boston in the Visual Merchandising Dept. I got to pose and dress the mannequins in the store-that job was so much fun! In 1988, I did my first window painting for a hair salon on Bowdoin Street in Dorchester. I had to work backwards (highlights and shadows first, then base color...what a challenge!). From 1987-1990, I did "paste-up" (that's what we did before PCs) and cartoons for the Dorchester Community News. In 1990, I did my first paid mural at a comedy club called Duck Soup (it was right next door to the Wang Center) in Boston. Between 1991-1995, I did a series of fashion shows for various organizations in Boston and LA, met Teena Marie (who bought one of my outfits right off my back!) and several other celebrities who liked my work, sold work on Rodeo Drive in LA and Newbury Street in Boston. In 1994-1997, I worked for Artist's For Humanity, a not-for-profit organization that encourages kids to create art and they get paid a stipend for their work. I loved working there and wish I had something like that when I was a kid. Throughout all of those years I worked on projects under the name of Lady Capricorn Designs. As of late, I have been doing my day job for the Trader Joe's Grocery Store chain, as an artist, and exhibiting my own work through various gallery showings with Dorchester Open Studios, African Winter Gallery, The Artist's Foundation and I even painted a cow for the Jimmy Fund's Cow Parade in Boston in 2006. Most recently, I have had some of my articles of clothing and handbags featured in Stampington & Company's series of magazines: Altered Couture, Haute Handbags and Belle Armoire! I feel blessed and and positive that there are more exciting opportunities ahead!
