Blake Hanna was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana into a musical family of a trumpet player, composer, violist, cellist, and drummer. After going through a few instruments, he became serious about trumpet after moving to California. He is currently pursuing his Bachelor’s degree in Trumpet Performance at California State University Northridge where he studies with Jon Lewis. He also has studied with David Washburn, Richard Giangiulio, Bill Bing, Johnny Zell, and Tim Divers. At CSUN, Blake has held principal positions in both the Symphony Orchestra & Wind Ensemble, as well as lead trumpet in both the Jazz A Band & the Studio Jazz Ensemble. He has also performed with CSUN Opera & El Dorado/Chelsea's Opera Company of New York. He was a scholarship winner of the LA Jazz Societys - Bill Green Mentorship Program as well as runner-up in the California Alliance for the Arts Emerging Young Artist competition. He attended the Idyllwild Arts music program in the summers of 2006 and 2007 and is a co-founder of the Los Angeles based brass quintet, Grand Ave. Brass. He is also currently a member of the indie rock band, The Minor Canon. Blake has performed with the California Philharmonic and the Pasadena Pops Orchestra. He hopes to pursue is graduate degree after finishing CSUN, while his professional goals include orchestral, chamber, solo, and studio work.
