As a young girl, Liberty Silver grew up with music all around her and became an entrepreneur at the age of 11 by holding mini-concerts after school, charging schoolmates to hear her sing in exchange for chocolate bars and homework answers.Willing to stand up for what she believes in, Liberty Silver auditioned for a band and the same day drove to New York City and opened for the King of Reggae, Bob Marley, at Madison Square Garden at the tender age of 12. Liberty Silver has been singing professionally ever since. “The rest is historyâ€, as they say.Since her early days, Liberty Silver has been performing a world's worth of music in concert halls and festivals such as Antigua Jazz Festival, Ottawa Jazz, Jamaican Jazz, Demurer Jazz Festival, Beaches Jazz, and many others.
Liberty Silver has sold millions of records and cd's throughout the world, with all types of music ranging from R & B to Jazz, to multi-platinum dance tracks and even country music
Blessed with an incredible instrument and rare vocal range, Liberty’s voice can expand 6-1/2 octaves. Her immense talent won her 7 consecutive weeks on Star Search, and then in the mid-1980's she took the Canadian music scene by storm when she received 2 co-vented Juno Awards for best R & B Single and Reggae/Calypso recording.That same year she was nominated for Most Promising Female Vocalist, and she also collaborated on a Jazz Cd that was nominated for a Juno Award, making her the only multiple Juno Award Winner and Nominee besides Bryan Adams.
Other accolades to her credit include 5 Black Music Awards, 3 Rock Express Awards, the Shuremic Award for Vocals, the Bob Marley Memorial Award, the Chin International Songwriting Award (where Liberty performed songs in Italian), The Michigan State Music Competition, 3 Genie Nominations for Acting, Jazz Reports, Top Female Jazz Singer Award, and most recently received The 2005 African Achievement Award for Arts and Entertainment. She was nominated for the Best Female Vocal and Original Composition Award at the Canadian Smooth Jazz Awards, honouring George Benson.
Liberty has opened for B.B. King, The Temptations, Harry Belafonte, Mya Angelou, Don Rickles, Joan Rivers, Natalie Cole, Jeffery Osborne, J.T. Taylor, Gladys Knight, Cameo, SOS Band, Oscar Peterson, and the list goes on…She went on to sing lead vocals in “Mature Eyesâ€, the “Variety Club†video, a special command performance for the Lieutenant-Governor of Ontario, Lincoln Alexander, immediately after the screening of Stephen Spielberg's film “The Color Purple†at the Canadian Gala Movie Premiere for the Children's Aid Society, and is on the board of trustees for the Starlight Foundation of Canada which was founded by Dynasty's Emma Samms.
On “Private Propertyâ€, the debut album on the BMG Music Canada Label, Liberty collaborates with songwriters such as Lemel Humes (Pointer Sisters and Thelma Houston), David Bendeth (Joe Cocker and Jeff Beck), David Roberts and Dave Tyson.
Liberty also co-hosted the World Basketball Championship ceremony with TV Star Allan Thicke, hosted her own TV series “Centre Stage Chroniclesâ€, and co-wrote and performed the official Olympic theme for the 1996 Atlanta, Georgia, and 2004 Athens, Greece, Olympic games
Many of Liberty's devoted fans have been touched by her live performances,and recognize her voice behind numerous national anthems and jingles, including the theme song for CTV, “Turn Us Onâ€.
Liberty established the SAFE Foundation of Canada, along with Jennifer Richards. SAFE is a non-profit organization which stands for “Sports, Arts and Focus on Education†for youth in crisis. Performing at local schools and events encouraging youth to focus on their dreams and by helping them re-focus their energy to achieve their goals, Liberty is very proud of these accomplishments.Liberty's long anticipated new album has now arrived.
