Every once in a while, someone comes along with a unique vision and contributes to the process of an entire subculture. I don't know if he planned it that way, but that's what happened in the summer of '85 when Surf Punk's member Scott Goddard teamed up with producers Dennis Dragon and Danny Wilde to do Scott's first solo project for then Enigma Records. That effort spawned the alternative radio favorite "Cowpunk". "Cowpunk" was played coast to coast and reached the top ten on many college and commercial alternative radio charts. It was the tenth most requested song for the entire year on L.A.'s favorite station KROQ. "My phone bill was outrageous that year" laughs Goddard,"not to mention my mother's". Years later, Scott and Carl Caprioglio connected to release "You Break It, You Bought It" (1995), a greatest hits that also included new material. In 2006, Scott Goddard, a Surf Punk, a Cowpunk, a Los Angeles Icon passed away from liver cancer. May he rest in peace and his spirit live on in every Angeleno.
