Well that was an end of an era. I've now finished working for Sony Pictures and at the time of writing this, I'm on a two week break before I start a 3-year degree at the University of Warwick. I'll start on 30th September 2006. Absolutely loved the past year, and I feel I've learned one hell of a lot. It's now time for another phase of my life... scary to think I'm already 25% of the way through it! I think I'll definitely have a mid-life crisis when I'm older.

I've been told that I'm one of the 'nicest' people around. I also think i'm quite clumsy and can mess even the most secure things up at times! In addition to these two points I've just made, the latter of which seems to be more and more true... I'm not a bad guy and I've never intentionally hurt someone. I am a nice bloke, but even good people make mistakes. That doesn't make them bad. Take a look at my blog on "Sayings, Proverbs and Quotes".

I'm a strong supporter of Make Poverty History - I have the band on my wrist, I went to Live 8 and I even wear the boxers.

I'm not someone that always/never likes to do things. For instance, you can't say I love or hate marmite - cause I will eat it sometimes and think 'mmm!' and other times I'll think 'oh thats not very nice at all'. If you get to know me well enought you'll also be able to tell that I contradict myself in the same sentence all the time. For instance I'll say 'ah i love that band, but they are a bit shit' or 'He's a really nice bloke but is also a bit of a twat'. Things like that! Jonny & Loz know what I mean. Finally, I don't like, in fact I generally hate people who cheat (in games e.g. poker, not relationships - though I frown on that), manipulate, bully or belittle people. I like people who are their own person, different, don't care what others think. I don't ever look down on people for being the way they are - thats one of the main reasons I have a variety of friends. Those that are intellectual and going to Cambridge Uni, and those that left school at 16. I have friends that don't drink at all, and those that only seem to drink! And I like them all!

I've also realised recently, that (strange though it may sound), I like to know people really well. Well enough, in fact, that I can argue with them and not feel awkward or bad about it, and not having to worry about damage to a friendship. It's healthy to disagree. Although that doesn't mean I want to argue!

I'm also a little strange in the way that I like to avoid odd numbers (I got out of that when I was younger until Sophie refreshed the irritation caused by odd numbers!) I am a bit of a perfectionist, and I can't let things go that easily. For instance, there should always be two spaces after a full stop, capitals are important in sentences - its a bit of a niggle if they're missing. Also symmetry is good. I'm sure theres a fair few strange little things about me, such as the above, that I haven't mentioned!

I was recently told I am 'metro'. Not too sure what that meant at first but I took it as a good thing. Technically I suppose it means metropolitan, and you see a lot of people like me in London. However I understand it as 'straight with gay clothes'. Hmm!! To be perfectly honest, thats all a bit of a joke that I play up to though! I probably also ought to stress that I'm not gay. Someone asked me if I was the other day - it was a little embarrasing! I have an "edge" to me apparently. That makes me "edgilible". That's thanks to Loz, Lucy & Kate.

I HAVE HAD TO REMOVE MY DRAWING BOARD AFTER PEOPLE KEPT DRAWING MALE GENITILIA ON IT. THAT’S IMMATURE GUYS AND YOU HAVE NOW BEEN PUNISHED. NO MORE DRAWING ON MATT’S DRAWING BOARD! GO ANNOY SOMEONE ELSE!

According to the above suevey, I am: expressive, open, self revealing, loves large parties, loud, social, outgoing, does not like social isolation, assertive, social chameleon, positive, always busy, likes t fit in, likes to stand out, enjoys leadership, brutally honest, trusting, optimistic, desires attention, dominant, aggressive, attachment prone, wants to be understood and realistic. The funny thing is - lots of these (but not all of them) are true!

My Interests

Hmm, if I were answering that question about '6 things you couldn't live without' i'd have to say: family, music, mobile, friends, money and my watch (in no particular order).

Lets see tho, I have a camera with me most of the time, as you never know when something funny or amazing might happen, and it's great to look back on pictures and remember the funny things that have happened. It's especially good if you find pictures you didn't take or don't remember taking / being taken. Plus, it's nice to just have photos of regualr nights out. Don't you think?

I have an ambition to earn a lot of money by the time I'm in my 30's and would like to have at least one nice house! I intend to get involved in the media industry and follow in my fathers footsteps! Although now I'm kind of slanted towards making my money in the city and then perhaps trying to direct a show or film as a hobby.

I love to watch films, but I can be generally critical about them - I'm rarely keen on the blockbuster films, and prefer ones which make you think, or the ones that are just plain stupid. Leslie Nielsons films crack me up - i love them. But i'm also into films that tackle different subjects. If you want to watch a brilliant, but very disturbing film, i recommend Enduring Love.

I love to socialise and go out with anyone really, i'm very easy going and easy to get on with. I don't need alcohol to have a good time, but i'm not a completely boring sod and I like to enjoy life.

I like driving, i love it in fact! However, always doing the lifts for the siblings can be a bit annoying from time to time. But being in the car is one of the only places I can delve into my music without generally being disturbed.

There is plenty more to me, but Im not going to write it all down here as I know I would forget something, and whatsmore - If everything is written here then I'll have nothing to talk about!

I'd like to meet:

Anyone at all!

One mini-request though! If you add me and you don't know me already, then send me a message to say hi or something! :-) Otherwise I might never get round to chatting to you!

Anyone who is going to University of Warwick would be good to talk to too!

I don't mind who I meet, just as long as you talk - I tend to be able to find some common ground with most people!

Music:

Post Rock, Art Rock, Indie, Ambient

Generally the whole indie think i suppose. Altho that word can mean a hell of a lot now - I'm into practically any music, Badly Drawn Boy, the Polyphonic Spree (fantastic live!). Also tonnes of other bands I like.
Not to sure about the whole RnB and hip hop aspect of everything, but thats not to say i hate it all - there may be the occasional gem there!Other bands I like include Embrace, Athlete, The Thrills, Guns N Roses, Queen, Fatboy Slim, Lightning Seeds, Aerosmith, Robbie Williams, The Strokes and U2. Lately I'm particularly into the Delays, Arcade Fire and Sigur Ros.
I guess I'm the same with music. I need to be stimulated by it to enjoy it now. Theres just so much crap out there.

Download Hide and Seek by Imogen Heap - you'll either love it or hate it. It's a very different song and there's no music but I think it's fantastic. I didn't hear it from the OC by the way, cause apparently it's in that. I don't watch it! Some American TV is just too predictable, poorly acted and crap!
I've written a blog about a band called Sigur Ros (amongst a few others) - they make some of the most amazing, powerful music that I've ever heard. It's a very aquired taste, however. Most people don't like it but its pure magic in my opinion.

Movies:

Blimey I've already written about this above!

I'm into the 'arthouse' kind of films - but that doesn't mean boring films - they just tend to be more interesting, more in depth and make you think more than the typical dumbed down blockbuster. I like the films that touch your emotions - a sad film should be really sad, a horror film should be really scary, a comedy should be really funny, a drama should really leave you thinking. Otherwise I find films are not as stimulating as they used to be. Films that are slightly different are fantastic. Ones that people haven't thought about before. Charlie Kaufman's films are exactly like this (mentioned below)

Generally like the ones with the good reviews. Enduring love (disturbing but great), Crash, Green Mile, 21 Grams. All good films, but didint do fantastically at the Box Office - except Crash cause it won the Oscar.

I'm also into films by Charlie Kaufman - they're all good. For instance Adaptations, Eternal Sunshine Of A Spotless Mind, Human Nature, and I think Being John Malkovich was one too... All very strange but great films!

I worked for a film company (Sony Pictures - i.e. MGM and Columbia Tristar) and I got a bit sick of the crap blockbuster films. So many other fantastic films that never make it to the screens!

Also, as I've said above, Leslie Nielsons films are such a laugh and other comedy's are great too.

Also watch:

Big Fish, The Life Of David Gale (I'll add more as they come to mind!)...

Television:

I'm not a huge TV watcher but I like:

Scrubs (best comedy on TV),

Family Guy (hilarious),

24 (series 1 was brilliant - sadly it has gone downhill, but i still watch it when i can).

Extras - Hilarious. Class.

State Of Play was a BBC one-off series which was brilliant.

I like some of the programs - Life on Mars was good. Also like things like Spooks, Hustle. Simpsons and Futurama are a good laugh, but not the program I would deliberaely tune in to watch.

Petrolheads is my dad's TV show - so watch it!

Books:

I'm dyslexic so don't read much, but I read a fantastic Bill Bryson book about 3 years ago! And I read it again this summer. So yeah to sum it up, I've read one book twice in the last three years. 1, 2, 3.

Heroes:

Bob Geldof - simply for Live 8 and his support of Make Poverty History. I'm one of the few people who still has the band - never intend to take it off!

Jon Cowen - Apparently I'm his hero so he ought to be mine. In all honesty, he deserves a stand-up comdey night of his own.

Rob Lowe.

Oh, and If I was born a girl I'd want to be Loz. So I suppose she could be my "hypothetical guru and inspirator".
