So, how it all began…… Mr Manuka spent his childhood in Scotland, in 1993 he moved to the southwest of England, and began busking, forming a jazz/rumba duo called The Jahzzbeery Bros.
From there he moved on to playing bars and writing more music. It was a few years later when he joined a vocalist and it was this combination of talent and flair that opened doors to more venues and festivals. This was starting point of Whisper Dish, a successful Band in the Bristol area for many years.
Mr Manuka move onto his next project working with a gifted song writer/vocalist, which opened the door to regular acoustic gigs in Bristol.
In 1996, Mr Manuka spent time travelling in Europe, playing his music on the terraces in Barcelona, Spain, to the great castle in Carcason, France, gaining invaluable experience which is apparent in his recordings today.
Looking back at his previous musical experiences lead Mr Manuka's creativity to a new level, producing the beautiful and haunting ' Promise me'( a collaboration with Emily Teague). All of the collaborations and his own music carry the same unmistakeable unique style and quite simply beautiful melodies that is the trademark of Mr Manuka.
Mr Manuka finally cut his wings and settled down in Exeter, Devon in 2004 and started a 7 piece Ska-Funk-Latino band with friends. He played a major part in establishing this band within Exeter, using his writing skills, gaining respect from those within the music scene ,musically upping the profile of the band to a level which is unlikely to be met again after leaving for new ventures.
Mr Manuka is now working with the talented singer/songwriter Helen Jackson. The duo, known as 'Small Hours' have been working hard in the HoneyTrap Studio preparing the new demo 'No Sound' which includes the signiture track 'No Sound' and the and follow up track, 'Cut my wings'.
2009 is already set to be a productive and exciting year for Small Hours, so keep an eye on this Exeter based duo.
