Evocation was founded in 2004. Members at that time included Tomy (Guitar and vocal), Kei (Guitar), Lo (Bass) and Kin (Drum). The first performance Evocation participated in was the Punk+Metal+Hardcore Festival in 2004. Afterward, members of the band changed that Lazy (Drum) and Wing (Bass) joined and before Noah’s Ark Hong Kong Extreme, 2005, Wing left the band. Then Ming, the former bassist from Cadaver assisted in the performance. In 2006, Tai (Guitar) and BS (Keyboard, former Cadaver drummer) joined the band. Kei changed to playing bass. During this period, Evocation continued its performance and started to record its own album “Take Your Soulâ€. Then Lazy and Kei left the band. BS changed to playing keyboard and Chung (bass) joined the band. The current members of Evocation are: Tomy (Guitar and vocal), Tai (Guitar), Chung (Bassist) and BS (Drum).
Main themes of the music: the songs of Evocation mainly talk about the surrounding of us. For example, there are many promises made by people without any deep thoughts. Those promises are usually ruined by people themselves eventually. Until one dies, there can be thousands or millions of broken promises made.
“1942†uses battle to describe how promises are broken between two persons. People just like to betray each other.
“Take Your Soul†is written for reminding young people to think twice before they initiate any sexual relationship. They have to think about the consequence of it. If you are not well-prepared, you should never bring an innocent life to the cruel world. Otherwise, you are just building up your joy on the sacrifice of the innocent baby.

e=le tter&letter=NEWS&page=1EVOCATION
These guys from Hongkong did everything on their album single-handedly. The first visual impression is the nice packaging of the disc which was packed in a cool digipack and leaves the first mark. In addition the well done and clear production can convince the listener as well.
Of course it's not absolutely perfect and there is still some room for improvement but the band, which was formed about four years ago, can be more than satisfied with the final result. And what do they offer us on the musical aspect on their nine tracks? EVOCATION neither present us modern Black Metal crap nor total noisy old school stuff with backyard sound. The squad sounds more like mid 90s Black/Death Metal heavily influenced by the Swedish school.
All songs are consistently melodic and quite complex arranged and executed. They offer a successful blend of frisky, dark passages with sometimes long instrumental parts which are often interrupted by fast paced sections. Variation belongs to the top priorities of the quartet. I don't know why but their excellent work reminds me a little bit on the first output of SACRAMENTUM. Extremely varied are also the vocals. Sometimes nagging, then shifting into growls or just deep voices. Another positive aspect is that the band completely doesn't use any keyboards and the whole atmosphere is done by the guitars alone. The only execption is an instrumental where the formation uses keyboard/piano parts - but this song has almost an intro like character.
In my opionion these four Hongkong Chinese deliver a very promising album which should appeal to all diciples of high quality Black/Death stuff. Very well done!
