About Me

born in essex. escaped.
unsong create sound works utilising a miscellaneous array of sources: electronically generated tones, processed field recordings, disassembled voices, domestic appliances, stolen sounds, accident... but mainly the last one.
having idly experimented with sound since the mid-nineties, unsong’s output began with the sound design for a number of productions for london theatre company furnace memoirs, namely ‘stories from the bleedhinder’, ‘the killing of fat kid’, ‘beak’ and ‘the gospel according to mr. punch’.
in 2002 unsong’s debut release,‘the frailty of angels, the treason of people’ (mac 014), was released on cd through uk label macrophonies organisation to overwhelming critical disinterest. actually that's not entirely fair:
"...the title track on this disc is a beautiful piece of atonal electronics whose morphology has been executed exquisitely. the spatiality has to be admired... there's six tracks in total on this disc and none are 'fillers', each and every one of them stands out on their own merit. a very well accomplished album (particularly for a debut) and highly recommended."
-cheeses international
"totally deep, really quite beautiful at times and very dark and disturbed at others... a rollercoaster ride of intensity with wonderfully dense soundscapes and minimalistic pieces that grow with every listen."
-smallfish records
"...very well put together. the input in his music are electronically generated tones, processed field recordings, disassembled voices and household stuff... more into the sound research areas of the hafler trio (circa how to reform mankind), coil or andrew liles... sometimes the music falls below the point of hearing, but it always creeps back from under the carpet, right into your face... very well made. (fdw)"

following unsong's debut, a series of six cdr remixes of the tracks from 'the frailty of angels, the treason of people’ were produced (micro 001 - 006), each disc topping the 30 minute mark and designed to stretch the original material to breaking point and beyond.
having already contributed sounds to the andrew liles cd 'new york doll' (infraction records 2004), in early 2006 unsong was asked to contribute to the andrew liles remix cd 'in my father's house are many mansions' (fourth dimension 2006), remixing the liles track 'dissolved (te whare ao aitu)' from his release 'my long accumulating discontent' (nextera - cz - 2004).
unsong continues to create sounds to be released if and when funds allow.

unmusical

it is my firm belief that far from 'home taping' being the problem, it is in fact musicians that are killing music. it is within your power to stop them. -unsong-unmutualunsoundunsingerunsongwriter &n...
